100K!

Wow. It has finally happened. The Big Cartoon DataBase hit 100,000 entries earlier today. At 10:44 Mountain Time, I entered and approved "The Clouds Roll By", episode 1A from the Scholastic Entertainment series "I Spy", which is now officially the 100,000th cartoon entered into the Big Cartoon DataBase. I remember when we just got to about 20,000, and thinking how unattainable one hundred thousand would be.... and now we are there. I am still a bit amazed, and my head is still swimming. We would not be here without the users... without your interest in cartoons, we would never have even hit 20K. Really, the DataBase got started because of users asking questions. You kept asking, we kept growing. So we are here because it is what you wanted. Over the years, we have added more to make things more usable for you- image galleries, more detailed information, and earlier this year, even videos. We have responded to your requests, like breaking down cartoons into seasons... that was added earlier this year, too. So I hope we are responsive to your needs. I also appreciate all the input to the DataBase we have gotten from users- from correcting credits to adding new cartoons; from minutia and factoids to complete synopsis. Thanks- we are all the better for your submissions. But there are a couple users I really need to call out, because we would not be at 100K without them. Charles Brubaker (http://bakertoons.blogspot.com/)- has not only added innumerable cartoons to the DB, but he is a completist. We have full credits for many cartoons because of his diligence and submissions. And Bruce, the title card crazy man. We have a much more enjoyable site because of all the title images you have submitted over the years. But without Ethan, I might as well have packed it in years ago. To say he is my right hand man is to slight right hands everywhere. Many of you see and are informed by his daily news posts. This alone makes his contributions invaluable. What you do not see are the hundreds, thousands and even tens of thousands of submissions he has made behind the scenes. In fact, the 100,000th entry to the DataBase was submitted by Ethan. And I think I have another 1000 sitting in my inbox to add! But it is Ethan's fascination with death that provides me the most fun- not a person even remotely connected to animation can pass without Ethan's eagle Eye noting and posting about it. So for all these things- and many more- Thank You Ethan. So, what next? Simple: 200K! Again, thank you to all who have gotten BCDB to this point. Now, back to work- I have more cartoons to enter.

Just to put the 100K cartoons in our DB into perspective.... i have just learned that TV.Com only has 115K entries, total. That is animation AND live action.

It's kind of ironic that the "The Clouds Roll By" was the marker for 100K! Time does roll by! I remember years back when I would submit those huge emails with like 25 title cards attach to it! Sure you can thank us all for contributing Dave, but you're the man who's vision, time and dedication got us there! So thank you for making it possible.
