16mm Disney/Hanna-Barbera films

I was hoping that someone could direct me to a good source. I am the executor of my Father's will, and I need some help in finding out if some of his old 16mm cartoons (Disney, Hanna Barbera) are worth anything. Does anyone know of an appraiser I can take these films to? I am located in the Los Angeles/Ventura area and would appreciate any assistance. Mike similees8711-sbcglobal.net

I hate to sound pessimistic, but... Don't count on sending your children to college with the money you may be able to get from them. If you work REALLY REALLY hard enough at it, you may be able to send them to Burger King for lunch. The collector base for those old cartoon films is very tiny and the collector value on most of them are not that great. If you're lucky enough to find someone who has an interest in them, they'll probably only be interested in the rare ones (if there are any) and leave the rest. They're called "Cherry Pickers." A semi-educated guess is that if those 16mm Disney and Hanna Barbera cartoons are in EXCELLENT condition, you might get 10-15 bucks each. Maybe 20-25 for the rare ones. My advice is to hold onto them, get yourself a good quality 16mm projector (if you don't already have one) and enjoy them while they last. Film deteriorates over time. I believe that you can also get them transfered to digital media, which is not a bad idea if you plan on selling the original films. That way, you'll have a copy to enjoy. I have a stack of 8mm and 16 mm cartoon films mixed in with my toy collection. One tip: If it's a Disney film and it says Walt Disney Enetrprises on the box, it's older and a bit more valuable than if it says, Walt Disney Productions. Good luck. Here is a site that sells 16mm films: http://www.8mm16mmfilmscollectibles.com/16mm4.htm#c1
