Apologies to our friends The Moderators for posting this query in the Disney forum when I should've posted here, but I'm just in a dilemma over which of the 2 versions of this DVD to purchase. One is from the excellent Inkwell Images site, but the cheaper-looking one (found on Amazon and eBay) has 3 more cartoons on it. Would it be worthwhile getting both? Ta.

Nathan, who puts out the "cheaper version" you mentioned in your post? Is it one of those "bargain-basement" Public Domain DVD's? I know of only two good compilations featuring the "Alice Comedies"; (1) the "Disney Rareties" volume of the "Disney Treasures" series (which has seven "Alice Comedies" on it), and (2) the DVD set produced by Ray Pointer (which contains uncensored versions of two "Alice Comedies" that are not on the Disney set). Oh yes, there is also at least one Alice Comedy, Alice's Egg Plant, which is featured on a compilation DVD entitled Johnny Legend Presents: The Complete Weird Cartoons (Sony/Wonder). That compilation is a strange hodge-podge of cartoons from Disney, Warner Bros., the Fleischer Studio and other, independent, producers (like Charlie Bowers). If you're a big fan of the Alice series, I recommend obtaining both sets. Ray Pointer consistently puts out quality DVD's of vintage animation. I already own the Disney set and I was tempted to buy the Pointer set as well; however, I'm not a huge Alice fan and the 7 comedies on the Disney set were enough for me. I finally purchased the Ray Pointer compilation DVD, Before Walt, as I felt it offered the best cross-section of his other compilation DVD's (containing 1-2 cartoons from the aforementioned Alice DVD set and from the Disney "Laugh-O-Grams" series DVD) for the money. I'm on a tight budget these days, so that's all I could afford right now. Before Walt is a great compilation, BTW, and also contains vintage cartoons featuring Felix the Cat, Colonel Heeza Liar, Bobby Bumps and Gertie the Dinosaur (a "sequel", of sorts, to the original Winsor McKay cartoon).
