Animated programs nominated for B.C.'s Leo Awards You Must Register Before You Can Post

Two animated TV series, "George of the Jungle" and "Jibber Jabber," each received five nominations for the 10th Anniversary Leo Awards, organizers announced Monday.

Established in 1998, the Leo Awards celebrate excellence in British Columbia film and TV. This year's awards ceremonies and celebration take place May 23 and 24 at the Westin Bayshore Vancouver.

Produced by Chris Bartleman, George of the Jungle is one of five nominees for best animation program or series.

Its episode "Beetle Invasion" was nominated for best direction/storyboarding in an animation program or series (J. Falconer), screenwriting (Dave Lewman, Joe Liss and Dennis Heaton), best overall sound (Kirk Furniss) and musical score (Michael Richard Plowman).

Jibber Jabber (produced by David Bowes and Jim Corbett) was nominated for best animation program or series as well. Two of its episodes received best screenwriting nominations: "Pride of Frankenstein" (Sandy Flanagan and David Bowes) and "Enter the Jelly" (Victor Nicolle). A third episode, "Race to the Red Planet," was nominated for best overall sound (Chris McIntosh and Alex Hall) and musical score (Michael Richard Plowman).

Barbie Mariposa: Fairytopia 4, produced by Luke Carroll and Tiffany J. Shuttleworth, was nominated for best animation program or series, best direction/storyboarding (Conrad Helten) and best overall sound (Christine McLeod, Pat Haskill, Maureen Murphy, Dean Giammarco and Ewan Deane).

Besides being nominated for best animation program or series, Storm Hawks (produced by Asaph Fipke) received two nominations for its episode "Calling All Domos": best direction/storyboarding (Rav Grewal) and musical score (Bob Buckley).

Produced by Blair Peters and Chris Bartleman, the series Being Ian rounds out the nominations for best animation program or series. In addition, its episode "Every Kid 13" was nominated for best direction/storyboarding (Chad Van De Keere).

Other animated programs to be nominated for the Leo Awards:

Chaotic: Best director/storyboarding (Todd Ramsay and Lazarino Baarde, "Chaotic Crisis")

Class of the Titans: Best screenwriting (Michael Lahay, "The Game Plan"), best overall sound (Marcel Duperreault, Todd Araki, Jason Fredrickson and Kirk Furniss, "Dreamweaver"), musical score (Michael Richard Plowman, "Tantalize This!")

Ricky Sprocket Showbiz-Boy: Best screenwriting (Louise Moon, "The Screen Kissed"), best overall sound (Marcel Duperreault, Todd Araki, Jason Fredrickson and Kirk Furniss, "Moby Rick")

Pucca: Musical score (Hal Foxton Beckett, "Chef-Napped")

The list of nominees for the Leo Awards 2008 can be viewed online at www.leoawards.com.

To determine the final nominations, Lui Petrollini, partner at Ernst & Young Chartered Accountants LLP, tabulated the ballots of 47 jurors who adjudicated 750 eligible entries comprised of 131 program and 619 craft entries.

This year's Leo Awards are sponsored by Northwest Imaging & FX, the Union of British Columbia Performers, ACFC West, The BMW Store, IATSE 891 and Kodak Motion Picture Film.

The Leos are a project of the Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Foundation of British Columbia, and are produced by Troika Productions Inc. and Events One.
