"Beowulf," "Speed Racer" up for MTV Movie Awards You Must Register Before You Can Post

Warner Bros. motion-capture film "Beowulf" and "Speed Racer," an adaptation of a 1960s cartoon series, are among the many nominees announced Tuesday morning for this year's MTV Movie Awards.

The five nominees for Best Villain include Angelina Jolie for her performance as Grendel's mother in Beowulf, directed by Robert Zemeckis.

Said MTV of Jolie: "The world's hottest do-gooder goes bad for a slick reinterpretation of one of the oldest monster stories ever told."

Directed by Andy Wachowski, Speed Racer -- which debuts this Friday -- has been nominated for Best Summer Movie So Far, a new category this year. "The brains behind The Matrix transport us to an entire world built for speed in one of the flashiest remakes you'll ever see," MTV said.

Disney's partly animated Enchanted, directed by Kevin Lima, picked up three nominations -- all involving star Amy Adams.

Adams is up for Best Female Performance. Said MTV: "This ginger-headed gem is up for Best Performance after turning the storybook world of Walt Disney on its ear with New York attitude."

And Adams got a nod for Best Comedic Performance as well. "Lovely as they surely were, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty were sorely lacking senses of humor," MTV said of earlier Disney animated feature films. "Amy Adams takes care of that oversight with a vengeance."

For Best Kiss, the osculation between Adams and Patrick Dempsey was nominated as well. "Definitely one of the most animated kisses of the year, Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey make little birds fly around your head with their fairy-tale romance," MTV remarked.

Live-action buddy comedy Superbad, starring Michael Cera and Jonah Hill, leads the awards ceremony with five nominations.

The 17th Annual MTV Movie Awards will be broadcast live Sunday, June 1 from the Gibson Amphitheater in Universal City, California. Viewers can vote for all winners online through May 23.

I think "Beowulf" should win.
