Bette Davis

Hi there, folks! I'm writing a biography of Bette Davis, and I'm trying to find instances where Bette pops up in caricature form in WB animations of the 30s and 40s. Got any suggestions? Post here or email me at EdSikov-aol.com. Thanks!

Also in The Big Snooze (by Bob Clampett c. 1946) just before Bugs goes into a big heartfelt "come back to me" speech to Elmer Fudd he looks to the camera and says "Bette Davis is going to hate me for this."

Thanks, guys! This is great! I'm tracking most of them down on various tapes and DVDs. If anyone thinks of any others, please post 'em!

So I've found and seen all the titles listed above - except for MALIBU BEACH PARTY. Anybody know where I can get a copy or even just see a copy and return to the owner? I'm at EdSikov-aol.com in case you'd rather reply to me directly. Thanks again, guys, for your help!

So far, it's only been released on laserdisc -- on the set The Golden Age Of Looney Tunes, Vol. 4, to be precise. Maybe it'll show up next holiday season in Looney Tunes Golden Collection Vol. 4?

In HOLLYWOOD DAFFY, Bette enters "Warmer Brothers Studios" clutching a script. In a reasonably funny imitation of Davis's vocal style, the cartoon Bette says, "So you think I'm mean to you. You think I'm cruel. Mad. Selfish. Domineering! (To the guard:) Good morning. Well, you're right! I'm all that - and heaven, too." (A play on her 1940 melodrama with Charles Boyer) Is there any way to find out who performed the voice? Mel Blanc is the only person credited, and he obviously does Daffy and the security guard. But could he possibly have done Bette Davis as well?!

Quite unlikely... Mel Blanc did very few female voices during his long career. I ran into Malibu Beach Party on TV... it ran last week as part of Cartoon Alley #1 on Turner Classic Movies. Cartoon Alley #1 isn't running again this month, but try next month (or thereafter).

Quite unlikely... Mel Blanc did very few female voices during his long career. And usually it would be easy to tell. The only convincing female voice I heard come out of Blanc was when he performed the wolf in drag on "Daffy's Southern Exposure!"

People think I am crazy just because I didn't like "Ratatouille." Am I REALLY crazy, or do I see things differently?

Thanks again, guys. "Bette's" voice does sound convincingly female. Too bad. I'd love to be able to claim that Mel Blanc did a Bette Davis imitation. Wouldn't you just love to hear her say "Don't let-th athk for the moon - we have the tharth!"

Happy (posthumous) birthday to Bette Davis, whose films are being run today on TCM. Maybe, between the flicks, TCM will offer a WB cartoon caricaturing her?
