Fifty years ago today, the Flintstones had a milestone(No pun intended) with the birth of Pebbles.
The story arc began with the episode "The Surprise," in which Wilma told Fred she was pregnant. This delighted him, but he was unprepared for what lay ahead. In subsequent episodes, he was fired and rehired, had a run-in with his mother-in-law, not for the first or last time, and was even threatened by a bank-robbing granny!
Finally, the big day arrived. After a series of complications, little Pebbles was born. Of course, this happened offscreen, as animation wasn't quite ready to show the gory details of childbirth. From that moment on, Pebbly-poo was featured in many episodes either by herself, or with Bamm-Bamm, who arrived later.
Over time, she was seen as a teenager, a toddler, and a ten-year old. In the '90's, she finally married Bamm-Bamm, and they had kids of their own.
Happy 50th, Pebbles!

Interesting to note that, when Pebbles gave birth in the 1990s movie "Hollyrock-a-Bye Baby", she had twins. And that would probably be the last time ever that The Flintstones would be seen in animated form. A great but emotional way for The Flintstones cartoon series to go out.
During the late-80's to early-90's, two singers were named after Flintstones characters: Pebbles was the name of a popular R&B singer - with hits like "Girlfriend", "Mercedes Boy", "Giving You The Benefit Of The Doubt" and another hit that I can't remember the name of; and Dino - whose biggest hit was an upbeat remake of "Ooh Child", hitting #4 on "American Top 40" in 1993. It's possible that Pebbles and Dino had hits on "American Top 40" in a single week sometime in late 1990 - with either "Romeo" or "Gentle" for Dino, and definitely "Giving You The Benefit Of The Doubt" for Pebbles.
