Blade Runner

Hey, I saw the other post about WB going Blu-Ray, and that reminded me of the new 5 disk Blade Runner release. Anyone see it yet? The beautiful Lisa got me a Blu-Ray BR set for Christmas, and I am simply amazed. This is one of my all-time favorite films, and it has never looked better. It is nice Scott got a chance to tweak it like he wanted to in the Final Cut version- and that version is just pristine. No dirt or scratches anywhere- looks like it was shot on HD last week or something. What blew me away was the Making Of extra- dangerous Days. It is over twice as long as the film! For a fan like me, there is no boring moments- it is an incredible document. I kept seeing things I had never seen before (like a topless Rachael scene!). Well worth the price of admission. Disk three really shows off the technology of Blu-Ray (and, I would assume, HD-DVD). Three different original releases of BR are on that disk- the original theatrical (the one with narration), the "international" cut (more violence than the US release) and the 1992 Directors cut (no narration, unicorn scene added). They also look good, but not as crisp as the Final Cut on Disk one. I have not yet gotten to disk 4 (even more extras) and disk 5 (the rough cut version). So, any other BR fans out there? Is Deckard a replicant? Is this one of the coolest films ever made? Do you like the narration? Here is my take on the narration, Yeah, it sucks. It is uninspired. Harrison Ford admits he read it poorly because he did not like it. But this is a film noir- and narration is a natural part of film noir. And I would submit the film w/o narration is a bit hard to follow... ask anyone who saw the directors cut who never saw the narrated version. Once you have seen the narrated, you KNOW the film, and you can see it w/o and not get lost. If the narration was done a bit better, it would not be nearly so hated. It should have been edited a bit better, too- I think the narration at the end was too much. But I do not hate thew narrated version- it has it's place in BR. So, Deckard, replicant. What do you think?

One of my resolutions for 2008 is to stop being so clueless about Blu-Ray. This phenom has taken me by complete surprise, and I don't know any one who has it, so I haven't even seen it yet. My first question as a Blu-Ray ignoramus is: If I put a Blu-Ray movie in my G5 iMac, will the onboard DVD player run it? Oh, and lest I forget, I saw Blade Runner when it appeared in the theaters and haven't seen any of the other cuts. Still thought it was one of the select few "adult" sci-fi's that anyone had ever accomplished.

>>> My first question as a Blu-Ray ignoramus is: If I put a Blu-Ray movie in my G5 iMac, will the onboard DVD player run it? No, it will NOT run in a regular DVD player. I mean, come on- half the idea here is to make you buy NEW stuff, right? A DVD will play in a bluRay, but a BluRay will NOT play in a DVD. Sort of like a CD when DVD came out.

Blade Runner is one of my all time favorite movies. Wonder if they'll remake it like Hollywood remakes everything else it seems....
