Can our E-Cons be used outside the Forum?

I really like our E-cons; and I recall that I was once able to copy and paste a number of them in e-mails sent to an old colleague of mine at a previous workplace, using Microsoft Outlook. Is this the only e-mail format that will allow usage of our E-cons? Currently I have Yahoo mail and there are no menus or toolbars (so far as I know) which allow one to cut and paste emoticons as part of the inline text.
