Cartoon Network, Adult Swim coming to Canada
Teletoon Canada Inc. and Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. announced Thursday a partnership that will bring Cartoon Network and Adult Swim to Canadian television later this year. This new digital specialty network is a complementary, ad-supported channel with a built-in fan-base. Canadian audiences can expect to see shows such as The Amazing World of Gumball, Adventure Time and Regular Show during the Cartoon Network block between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. ET/PT, followed by an Adult Swim late-night lineup commencing at 9 p.m. ET/PT. "We are honored that Cartoon Network has entrusted Teletoon to manage these two great brands in Canada," said Teletoon Canada Inc. president Len Cochrane. "This marriage between Teletoon and Cartoon Network will grant us the opportunity to offer more cartoons, more stories and more excitement to everyone, everywhere." This partnership, arriving on the eve of Teletoon's 15th anniversary and Cartoon Network's 20th anniversary, includes a programming, trademark and branding deal that will bring the best of Cartoon Network's exclusive first-run content that has never been seen before in Canada, in addition to almost 2,000 half-hours of vintage Cartoon Network and Adult Swim library selects. "Cartoon Network and Adult Swim are beloved brands with programs that have a large and loyal global audience," said Stuart Snyder, president and chief operating officer of Turner's Animation, Young Adults & Kids Media Division. "We are looking forward to extending the reach of both of these brands in the Canadian marketplace with our new partnership with Teletoon." The deal will allow Teletoon to launch the Cartoon Network brand in Canada in both standard and high definition across linear television, Video on Demand, broadband and mobile platforms. Teletoon will serve its French audience by launching a Cartoon Network programming block, along with making programming available online, through mobile and Video on Demand.

I dont think most ppl in canada will be impressed with "ADULT SWIM" -- Nothing really good about it! (South park is better than that) First, there is no "most people" in this case; you're merely referring to yourself. Second, just saying "I don't like such-and-such channel" is not contributing to the discussion. If you truly don't like what's being offered to our neighbors to the North and you truly don't care about this, then don't post. Don't come to the thread at all if the subject matter doesn't interest you and next time you feel the urge to troll, kindly suppress it.

In a way (as a Canadian), I am glad to see a CN/AS channel coming to Canada, but not for what will be on the channel itself! Several Cartoon Network series already are on Teletoon. Some Adult Swim series (fewer, admittedly) are on the Teletoon at Night programming block. Usually, these are seen several months to a year later in Canada than in the U.S., where they're first aired. Canada's federal broadcast regulator frowns on one company duplicating its service on other channels, so what I envision is Teletoon being compelled to bring more original content (including Canadian material!) on its original channel once the CN/AS channel swings into operation. That way, we get the best of both worlds. CN/AS fans will have their own dedicated channel, while fans of Canadian content (myself included) will have even more home-grown material to see on Teletoon.
