Chasing a nose

Ok, I am very lost on this and don't even know how to search it.
It was my favorite movie back in the 80's when i was a kid.
I remmber 2 things about it.....
1) There were 2 main charcters a boy and a girl, and there "dog" who was red. It was very round and it always lost its nose and it kept chasing the nose.. The nose would roll and roll and roll.
2)And I am maybe going on a limb. But I am pretty sure they traveled by going through random doors. And t would go into a new world.
but I think the "round" dog who is brown/red and chases its nose through the whole movie is the key to finding the name.
