Classic Disney being aired? Excuse my ignorance You Must Register Before You Can Post

You toon vets will have to excuse my ignorance here, but like B29, I'm a late bloomer when it comes to Disney.

I'm wondering if any of the classic Disney shorts or feature-length movies are broadcast regularly on television anymore? I surfed on the DChannel site tonight trying to find an answer, but I didn't have much luck.

My wife has seen very few of the classics and it's been years for me, too. I'm thinking about my only option is renting DVDs?

Not an ignorant question at all, Disney should air their classic animated films, but as long as “Hannah Montana” type shows remain popular, that will not happen any time soon. I suggest you try renting the many “Walt Disney Treasures” DVD’S, it features almost the entire classic animated short library.

I recall the Disney Channel did air "The Aristocats"
(1970) in December, for the holiday season. But
such programming is not the norm, it seems.

Re: Classic Disney being aired? Excuse my ignorance [In reply to] You Must Register Before You Can Post

It seems like all of Disney's classic animated feature-films and shorts have now been relegated to an afterlife on DVD and Blue-Ray Discs. I remember seeing "Robin Hood" on The Disney Channel one Sunday morning about three years ago. About six years ago, just before Thanksgiving, I watched "Alice in Wonderland" on my local WB affiliate. Since then I haven't seen anything aired on broadcast TV or cable.

The problem with the Walt Disney Treasures DVD's is that they're only available in limited editions and many of the titles in the series have already gone out of print. Used copies can still be found on Amazon; there are also a few scant new copies around, but expect to pay an arm and a leg for those. Netflix and Blockbuster are probably the best bet for finding rental copies

I must agree with everyone. Sometimes, but not very often. I only actually seem to get the Disney channel in the morning and sometimes at night for a weekly...or monthly movie. I have seen the shorts on here as well if for instance the movie ends short for the time then they throw in like a Uncle Scrooge teaches Huey Duey and Louie about money short.

Here in the UK Disney does still show the odd classic movie on its Cinemagic channel. (Especially at Christmas.)

No good to me though, as I don't have sat/cable!

Toon Disney still shows some classic animated Disney films. I've seen them often air "Alice in Wonderland," "The Sword in the Stone" and "Robin Hood."

People think I am crazy just because I didn't like "Ratatouille." Am I REALLY crazy, or do I see things differently?

Re: Classic Disney being aired? Excuse my ignorance [In reply to] You Must Register Before You Can Post

Occasionly you can catch a Classic on the Disney channel at 6 or 7 o'clock at night. Brother Bear will be on Monday the 10th at 7 o'clock.

I wouldn't say that people don't care about the Classics anymore. We just watch movies differently now then we did years ago. It's not like the old days.
For example, the "Wizard Of Oz". It would air once a year on TV. Everyone would sit there and watch every year. Then it got released on video tape and DVDs. Although you could watch it any time you wanted it just didn't have that same magic as watching it once each year. The same thing has happened to the Disney Animated Classics. People still watch them but the magic isn't quite the same. Why?

We go into a store and see something that we really like. Then the salesperson tells us, you can't have it because it is not available. What happens? We want that thing even more now because it's been taken away from us. Our desire to see that Disney Classic has now jumped off the scale because Disney took it away from us and he might let us see it again in another 5 or 10 years. Walt Disney was a great salesman.
But now that we can own that Classic on DVD our desire to watch it isn't the same. It's lost some of that Disney magic.
