I remember seeing it weekday mornings or afternoons on one of NYCs local stations in the late 70s. The "star" was a little guy and like I said in the title it was set in America around the time of the Revolutionary War. I can recall the lil guy saying "Never buy a pig in a poke" as his tagline. Thanx

Two series come to mind: Spirit of '76 (1975) and its sequel, Spirit of Independence (1976). Released in syndication, both were produced and directed by the great Shamus Culhane -- who did the layouts as well. Featuring limited animation and still drawings, they "starred" ghost Sam Hawkins, who would talk about one figure or another in the American Revolution. Each cartoon ran for about four and a half minutes. Sam Hawkins was a ghost -- or a "spirit"... get it?

If not those two cartoons, I thought I might be: Hector Heathcote

Hector Heathcote was a Terrytoons production. Hector had a talking pet dog named Winston.

I know this is an old thread but I was searching for the same thing. I was a little kid in the 70s, grew up on Long Island so I got the NYC channels too. I seem to recall a cartoon about the American Revolution around the bicentennial. I think it was on in the afternoons on the weekend. I looked up the Spirit of 76 and Spirit of Independence. I am not sure if it is them as I don't remember a ghost at all. From what I remember , I think the cartoon was more on the serious side. I wish I could help out more with what I remember .
