Does nobody care about the Oscars anymore?
|
|
|
I was surprised how in the past, we'd talk a LOT about the Academy Awards, but since 2008 there would be next to no discussion about them! Animation-wise, could they have gotten too predictable? (i.e. Pixar always winning) There wasn't even discussion on "Avatar" losing Best Picture. Your thoughts?

Was avatar really a serious contender? Not for Best Pixture, I do not think. But yeah, a little tired of seeing PIXAR every year.... but I would rather have them win and have their films than for them to slide into mediocracy

PIXAR is the NY Yankees of animation and people are either going to love 'em or hate 'em by virtue of their being a dynasty. Personally, I love 'em (PIXAR, that is). I regard their string of hits with the same admiration that I have for my Beatles collection. No one else does it better. You gotta tip your hat.

I haven't watched the Oscars in years because the awards ceremony itself has become a joke. It drags on for hours, has innane commentary and musical numbers and has lost whatever dignity and prestige it once had. I think the ceremony "jumped the shark" when Dave Letterman was the host. That was embarrassing to watch, with all the cheap jokes and ludicrous cameos by the likes of Rosie O' Donnell.

I and about a dozen colleagues worked during Oscar night in a job that involved making hundreds of calls to residences. NOBODY complained that we were interrupting the Oscars... in fact, nobody even mentioned to me that it was Oscar night! (Although I knew that it was, of course.)

"The Hurt Locker" winning Best Pic really shocked people...since not many people saw the film. But I'm glad that they went back to the 10 Nominees which wasn't used since 1943 when "Casablanca" won.

Well, the Oscars came and went by again, and except for me and Ethan, nobody else seemed to notice! It looks like nobody here truly cares about the Academy Awards anymore, compared to back in 2006-2007. Here's a video of the presentation of anyone is interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zoh7ojFHyQU The presentation of the Best Animated Film and Short awards were also very boring, with Justin Timberlake co-presenting them. Why can't they make them like THIS anymore: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zoh7ojFHyQU Any comments/opinions?

There was also the 1996 show, when Robin Williams presented an honorary Oscar to Chuck Jones... Robin said he always "had a Jones for Chuck." Those were the days, my friend!

I'm not big on the Oscars anymore. But I still like to see who won for best actor(actress)/supporting and Best Picture. Also, I'm glad that Toy Story 3 won Best Animated Movie.

What I missed in this years Oscars was that there wasn't much recognition of the older films that were winners and nominees. No collage of them either. That's why I like watching The Oscars! But hearing that "The King's Speech" was going to win it all was NO surprise!
