Don Messick on Archie's Funhouse
I recently bought Archie's Funhouse on DVD for 5 dollars (that's really too expensive for what the show is ). I noticed that I can clearly hear Don Messick doing the voice of Jughead's dog Hot Dog and of Mr. Weatherbee, but I don't see his name in the credits ever. Did Mr. Messick ask to have his name taken out of the credits? If he did, it certainly wouldn't be the first time someone did that.

Messick also voiced Harvey in Filmation's "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" cartoons but isn't credited there either. (Though the end credits on the DVD set are from syndication, not the original airings.) His name is in the end credits of "Archie and His New Pals", which I think originally aired in prime time. Here's a Sabrina episode that he did a lot of incidental voices for: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfC644LvHlg

Interesting; Don Messick also provided a few incidental voices in "The Alvin Show," but was uncredited (I recognized his voice of Sam Merlin in the "Pop Goes the Weasel" segment.) I think he had some kind of contract with H-B; his name could not be credited on other companies' shows if he did any voices for them.

Howard Morris was the regular voice actor for Jughead and Dallas McKennon played Hot Dog's thinking voice and Mr. Weatherbee for most of the Filmation Archie run. Messick did play Jughead's and Hot Dog's voices in one or two cartoons. Lou Scheimer usually played various minor supporting roles in his Filmation cartoons but he was never credited. It could be an actor's union thing. Or Messick's contract with Hanna-Barbera did not allow his name to be credited in work for other studios. Daws Butler was never credited in his Jay Ward cartoon roles because Butler was working for Hanna-Barbera which had a contract with Kellogg's cereals as a sponsor. General Mills sponsored Jay Ward's cartoon shows at the time. Rival cereal companies and exclusive contracts.

Messick did Mr. Weatherbee's voice in the first episode on the Sabrina DVD set, "The Fairy Godmother". (This was probably the first episode in the series because the exterior shot of Sabrina's house is completely different.)
