DreamWorks' Kung Fu Panda gets kick at the Cannes You Must Register Before You Can Post

"Kung Fu Panda" is expected to screen non-competitively at this year's Cannes Film Festival as one of the few United States offerings, The Hollywood Reporter said Friday.

Members of the voice cast -- which includes Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Lucy Liu and Dustin Hoffman -- are expected to jet into the French resort to support the DreamWorks animated feature.

Kung Fu Panda is scheduled for general North American release June 6. Cannes runs from May 14 through May 28.

Just one American film, Charlie Kaufman's directorial debut Synecdoche, New York, is expected to be shown in a competitive spot, Variety reported Thursday.

Last year, several U.S. entries figured at Cannes, including the Coen Brothers' No Country For Old Men, David Fincher's Zodiac and Gus van Sant's Paranoid Park.

But this year's American offerings are few and far between. The shortage of U.S. material has been attributed to uncertainty over production schedules caused by the recent Writers Guild of America strike.

Also premiering non-competitively will be Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, scheduled to be shown May 18. The fourth Indiana Jones outing is expected to be one of Cannes' biggest draws, as director Steven Spielberg, producer George Lucas, and stars Harrison Ford and Shia LaBeouf are likely to attend.

Barry Levinson's film industry satire What Just Happened, starring Robert De Niro, will close the festival.

The Cannes Film Festival will announce its lineup officially next Wednesday.
