Saudi cleric issues death sentence on Mickey Mouse

Like his real-world counterparts, Mickey Mouse ought to be killed for his corrupting influence, a Saudi-based Muslim cleric has warned.
"Mickey Mouse has become an awesome character, even though according to Islamic law, Mickey Mouse should be killed in all cases," said Sheikh Muhammad Munajid, a former diplomat at Saudi Arabia's embassy in Washington, D.C.
Under Sharia (Islamic law), both household mice and their cartoon versions must be killed, said Munajid.
He was asked to state Islam's views on mice during a religious affairs program which aired August 27 on al-Majd TV, an Arab television network.
Depictions of mice in such cartoons as Tom and Jerry, and Disney's Mickey Mouse, have taught children that the animals are lovable, although the mouse is "one of Satan's soldiers" and makes all it touches impure, Munajid declared.
"According to Islamic law, the mouse is a repulsive, corrupting creature. How do you think children view mice today -- after Tom and Jerry?" he said, according to a translation provided by the Middle East Media Research Institute, an American press monitoring service.
"Even creatures that are repulsive by nature, by logic, and according to Islamic law have become wonderful and are loved by children. Even mice," he continued.
"The mouse is one of Satan's soldiers and is steered by him. If a mouse falls into a pot of food –- if the food is solid, you should chuck out the mouse and the food touching it, and if it is liquid -- you should chuck out the whole thing, because the mouse is impure."
Notable for his many Islamic edicts, Munajid last month blasted the Beijing Olympics as the "bikini Olympics," asserting that nothing made Satan happier than seeing female athletes wearing scanty outfits.

But what about Mighty Mouse? He "saves the day"!  In a battle between Sheikh Muhammad Munajid and Mighty Mouse, I wonder who would win?

Well if The Sultan's Birthday is any indication, I'd say Mighty Mouse is capable of kicking some serious Sheikh butt!

I would have a much higher opinion of Sheikh Munajid if he had decreed a death sentence for Barney.
