Hanna Barbera and Warner Bros. You Must Register Before You Can Post

The WB and Hanna Barbera merged a long time ago.
Since this happened would you like to see the WB create more new, cartoons from Hanna Barbera characters? If so which ones?

For me, they don't need to create any new shows for old H-B characters. I'd just like to see them start producing some quality shows, instead of the crap that's polluting CN nowadays.

When Turner bought Hanna-Barbera and started the Cartoon Network, I was under the impression that the new management might make new episodes of Hanna-Barbera's programs with the same animation style and surviving voice actors for consistency to boost the episode totals for 24 hour programming as H-B did with "The Jetsons" and "The Snorks" for 80s weekday syndication (jumping from 20-30 half hour episodes to 65+ half hour episodes). I would have loved to see new episodes of "The Herculoids", "Space Ghost", "Wildfire", "The Biskitts", "The Trollkins", "Galtar and the Golden Lance", "Dynomutt", "Laff-A-Lympics", "Teen Force" and so on.

However, CN's attitude towards the Hanna-Barbera library (rerunning Scooby Doo constantly and treating Space Ghost as a jokey talk show host and eventually shoving all of H-B reruns on little-seen digital tiered Boomerang) borders on contempt more than any real interest in reviving H-B's tv creations, in my opinion.

I agree for the most part. Short of creating a third channel for the nostalgia buffs, I feel it would be in Time-Warner's best interest to make Boomerang a basic cable channel. That way, people would be able to choose between old school Cartoon Network and new school CN. (Of course, in order for that to happen, the demand for the Boom would have to become very high). Either that, or perhaps CN could start airing a 'Boomerang block' for a selected number of hours on the channel, enabling folks who don't have the Boom to see what they're missing.

Re: Hanna Barbera and Warner Bros. [In reply to] You Must Register Before You Can Post

'Tis a noble thought, AlphaFlight. But if bringing Huckleberry Hound, Yogi Bear and Quick Draw McGraw into the 21st century would mean giving them the Shaggy & Scooby Doo Get a Clue! treatment; i.e., rendering them in a really cruddy drawing style, turning El Kabong into a Batman parody and giving Yogi a picnic basket that grants him superpowers, then I would say pass on that. I would only want to see Huck and the gang revived by a team of directors who genuinely care about the characters, not some soulless marketing comittee that's only out to make a buck.

Those stylized "new" short subjects featuring classic H-B characters that originally ran as filler segments on Cartoon Network and can currently be seen on Boomerang should give you some idea what all new H-B shorts would be like (mind you, some of them were rather enjoyable).

Re: Hanna Barbera and Warner Bros. [In reply to] You Must Register Before You Can Post

I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum here. I have never thought very highly of hardly any of what most other people consider the "classic" HB, only Yogi Bear really was tolerable for me, maybe also Quick Draw McGraw. Getting to the 60s/70s, the Jetsons, Scooby, and the Superfriends (and to a lesser extent Speedbuggy, Josie and the Pussycats, Wacky Races, and Jonny Quest) are more what I liked. Really, the last "true" HB series I liked were the Smurfs and the Challenge of the GoBots. After that, I think that they went downhill far too rapidly and of course, Turner purchased what was left. So it's not particularly sad for me to not see any of these "classics" around anymore, I didn't think they were any good the first time around.

To each, his or her own.

The familiar animation style, voice actors, and sound effects added a comfort level when I watched their shows as a child. The animation was repetitive and the 70s-era laugh track was irritating, but H-B's shows were the best thing on free over-the-air tv at the time.

That sounds cool.

As in a "this is so ridiculous its actually funny" cool.

Would the picnic basket have random items and he would have to search through it to find an item that suits his needs or solve the crisis by using the items he does have creatively?

Would he have to eat the item, just use it or could it go either way?

Would he have to find (steal) picnic baskets or would he have one with him?

Would anyone watch? (I would, probably only once until I tired of the unintended humor in such a ridiculous concept).

If H-B cartoons were recreated, they would be on Adult Swim.
I thought of forming a show called Bertstown for Adult Swim and a few Hanna-Barbera characters would pop-up once in a while. And there's one that I decided to have as a main character.
The other problem would be...who would voice most of the characters? I can see Rob Paulsen doing the voices of Baba Louie or Loopy de Loop. But who else would fill in Don Messeneck or Daws Butler's shoes?

Here in Latin America we have a bigger problem. One year after Boomerang went "basic", Time Warner converted the channel into a more "profitable" half teen-oriented/half cartoon signal (trying to emulate Disney Channel's success, relegating the cartoons to a late-night slot), and by May 2008 the cartoons were dropped. Fortunately CN still shows Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry sometimes, while last year Toonast began operation. -Unfortunately, the channel is a premium network-
