How to get your art noticed
I am at a point in my life where I need a change! I have always had a talent to draw funny and original cartoon characters and finally with some push from family and friends I have decided to try and get my art noticed. I am not looking to make a million dollars overnight, just looking to make a start somewhere but I have no idea how or where. I am 29 and have a wife and child and I know its gonna be hard....wish I lived somewhere like cali. but I am in Chicago so that may help being in a big city, right now I am just lost. Any advice or help would be AWESOME!!!

You need a change? You and I both! My backgrounds in writing, not drawing, but the same advice is probably good for both of us: think local. Yes, Chicago isn't a big center for animation like L.A., the Bay Area (or Vancouver!) is, but there are some animation studios in your area that you could try. Here are a few that I found online: Calabash Animation www.calabashanimation.com Clay, cel and computer animation. TV specials, shorts and commercials. AGA Digital Studios, Inc. (Schaumburg) www.agadigital.com 3D Computer Animation, Digital / Visual Effects Bix Pix Entertainment www.bixpix.com A full service clay-animation studio where original work for television and independent clients is created from conception to completion. Day 1 Studios www.day1studios.com 3D computer animation Dreamation Studios www.dreamationstudios.com A 3D, CGI animation studio with creative, technical and production capabilities focused on creating the next wave in animation feature films, television, merchandise and multimedia. Inde Digital Animation www.studioronin.com A boutique animation and special effects house. Pat Bradley Animation www.patbradley.net Specializing in 2D cell and Flash animation. Toon Ranch www.toonranch.com Animation production. Of these, I'd suggest approaching Calabash Animation first -- one of its releases, Stubble Trouble (2000), was nominated for an Oscar for Best Short Film (Animated). You could also approach some of the many advertising agencies that are still a big part of the Chicago scene. Dr. Seuss had ad agency contracts (not in Chicago, though) long before he drew and wrote the first of his many books.
