I agree that colorization is just sloppy. I have a Kids Klassics Porky Pig video with this cartoon, and at the beginning, it has the early 1950s Looney Tunes intro edited so the Warner and Presents text wouldn't fade up after the shield zooms in (they just looped the footage of the shield sitting there after it zoomed it, most likely to edit out a Bugs Bunny fade-in), and then cut to the "LOONEY TUNES" title card (it didn't fade to it), plus the music was muted. Then when it cut to the cartoon's title card, you hear the theme for "Ali Baba Bound" play for a second, but then changes to the "Porky's Railroad" main title theme! The closing is also muted, and features the 1944 Porky in a Drum closing. <br>

Well you are watching it on youtube, and everything on there looks like crud anyway, but the colorized version is not complimentary to the original detailed animation. It's sad but a typical process of our film history as executive studio heads don't respect the integrity of the original composition.

Though it should be of note the colorization of these cartoons was done in the late 60's by an unnamed studio in Korea that WB had commissioned the work to be done at. The stigma at the time was that children would not watch black & white cartoons as it was redeemed "boring", and with the trend of color broadcasting becoming a trend, it was decided to colorized much of the LT cartoons of the late 30's/early 40's to meet such demand. For the rest of the 20th century, these redrawns had been seen time and time again on TV, either from UHF station presentations or the later airings on Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network. In our modern times, these cartoons should be looked on as irrelevant and a product of hap-hazard thinking of the time. We can now watch them in black & white again and enjoy them for what they were.

That's the 1st time I've heard 'Porky Pig' and 'anime' in the same sentence!

It's available in its original glorious black & white on the Looney Tunes Gold Collection Vol. 4.

When Cartoon Network ran the Looney Tunes, they had eight redrawn copies. I believe they included... "Fish Tales" (uses 1956 opening/closing logos) "Wholly Smoke" (uses 1956 opening/closing logos) "Jeepers Creepers" (uses 1956 opening/closing logos) "Porky's Bear Facts" (I don't know what opening it had, but it most likely used the W-7 logos since most redrawn copies of this cartoon have that) "Porky's Pooch" (again, don't know what logos it had) "Daffy's Southern Exposure" (uses W-7 opening/closing logos) "The Daffy Duckaroo" (uses W-7 opening/closing logos) "Puss 'n Booty" (uses 1956 opening/closing logos) And I know the computer colorized version of "Porky the Fireman" used clips from the redrawn colorized version, so did "Porky's Five and Ten" (I read the ending with the fish getting seltzer in the face was from the redrawn version) And when Cartoon Network aired the computer colorized version of "A Coy Decoy," the colorization looked pretty good, even though it used the color choices from the redrawn version (like Daffy's pink neck) But at least the results were superior compared to the redrawn-colorized version!

The first time I saw them was around the early 80's from a local station that had the W7 prints, but ones that aired a few years later from a station in Detroit would use the '56 prints and I assumed they were a much newer package than what I was used to seeing before.
And when Cartoon Network aired the computer colorized version of "A Coy Decoy," the colorization looked pretty good, even though it used the color choices from the redrawn version (like Daffy's pink neck) But at least the results were superior compared to the redrawn-colorized version! And none of that "The Wole of Wall Street" either!

I've also noticed that typically these colorizations do not play the whole opening theme music; they usually just start the music six seconds later than the actual beginning. An exception is the version of the redrawn "Wholly Smoke" with the 1956 opening/closing, it plays the full opening theme from start to finish. Also, I've seen an unusual print of the redrawn "Get Rich Quick Porky." It starts and ends with the 1943 Merrie Melodies logos with the 1941 MM themes playing over them, at the end after the red iris out the cartoon music finishes and cuts to the closing them already 1/3rd in progress. Pretty weird, since most prints of that colorization have the old Sunset Productions copyright screen and original "Fat Porky" LT card. both tinted in yellow. The ending has the 1968 W-7 closing animation, with the 1937 end theme playing over it.

I always laugh at that dog from "Shake Your Power Puff" because it looks like he's gagging! Also, I remember the guy who had the old "Colorized Cartoon Database" saying he had a strange copy of "The Timid Toreador," that started with the AAP logo, and then the 1944 LT intro (blue rings, Porky and Daffy's heads on the LT card), and for a few frames you could see the "Tom Turk and Daffy" card begin to fade up, before cutting to the Warner/Seven Arts intro with the 1937-1938 LT theme playing under it. Then the cartoon plays, and at the end you briefly hear the 1937-1941 closing theme begin, but it then seuges into the late 1950s Looney Tunes closing sequence (with 1955 closing theme). For those wondering, my public domain LT videotape is a Porky Pig video from Kids Klassics. It has the redrawn versions of "Get Rich Quick Porky" (the print with the 1940s Merrie Melodies logos), "Ali Baba Bound" and "Porky's Railroad" (all redrawns are toned in black-and-white) followed by the original black-and-white version of "Porky's Pig Feat." They had the music from their opening and closing sequences muted, though on "Ali Baba Bound" they briefly unmuted the audio on the 1944 Porky in a Drum outro so you could hear Porky say his "The-th-th-that's all folks!" line. And the copy of "Porky's Pig Feat," though it isn't a redrawn print, it starts with the Sunset Productions copyright screen, before cutting to the 1943 LT title card (you can briefly see the WB shield card fade out for a few frames, too). How weird is that?
