It's too bad they didn't cast her as Aunt Esther; that would be great seeing her sparring with Redd Foxx on a regular basis. At the beginning credits of the first episode posted on your blog, David, I noticed that the show was based on a different British show other than "Steptoe and Son"

Has anyone seen "It's A Wonderful Life"? She was part of the Boarding House Ladies where George Bailey (Jimmy Stewart) lived at.

She was actually a cook and housekeeper, named "Annie", who assisted Mildred Bailey in the running of "Mrs. Bailey's Boarding House" The first time she appears onscreen, you can hear just a bit of her M2S characterization when she says to Harry Bailey, "...If you lay a hand on me, I'll hit you with this broom!"

So later at the end of movie, when she contributes to the money basket to help George. I didn't realize that was her? She says something like she was saving her money for a man, but I'll give it to you George?

FANS OF LILLIAN, REJOICE!! Here's a link for all the Great Gildersleeve episodes, in which she was a regular as housekeeper Birdie! http://www.freeotrshows.com/...at_Gildersleeve.html During the first season, Mel Blanc and Tedd Pierce were semi-regulars as well. A couple of years down the road, Arthur Q. Bryan was a regular as Floyd the town barber.

Dodsworth Can't really recall which episdoes, except perhaps the latter part of the first season (circa early 1942). He did just incidental characters. This likely was one of his first jobs upon his return to LA, after the Fleischer studio down south closed. And besides, Blanc would've put in a good word for him....Pierce DID do numerous voices in the WB cartoons he wrote (e.g., the lion in Bugs' THE LION'S BUSY; the stupid indian in A FEATHER IN HIS HARE; as well as the original voice of Jose the fat crow, in Freleng's Two Crows debut TWO CROWS FROM TACOS--somebody's gotta point this out in this site's entry for that cartoon, as well as IMDB's entry!!!.....doesn't anyone realize that's Pierce?).
