Pixar and Disney animator, director and filmmaker John Lasseter was presented with a lifetime achievement award Friday night by entertainment organization Shorts International. "It feels fantastic because I love short films," Lasseter said during Shorts International’s first annual Short Awards, held at Soho House in West Hollywood. "I love the art form and what it did for me as a filmmaker. "I learned so much from making short films. They're these little gems, these fantastic little ideas that are not meant to be a feature film. They're perfect unto themselves. A great short film leaves you smiling and thinking about it." Shorts International produces, distributes, promotes and broadcasts short films. In 1988, Lasseter won the Oscar for best animated short film for Pixar's Tin Toy. Among others honored Friday by Shorts International was veteran voice actress June Foray.
