Legendary actor Jackie Cooper died Tuesday at a hospital in Beverly Hills, California after a "short illness." The Los Angeles-born actor was first nominated for an Oscar when he was nine years old for his role in the 1931 film Skippy. He was a child performer in the Our Gang series of shorts. Cooper was a highly respected director in his adult years -- winning Emmy awards for his work on M*A*S*H and The White Shadow. Cooper may be best known for his portrayal of The Daily Planet newspaper editor Perry White in the 1978 Superman film.
