Murphy, 76, died Thursday in Los Angeles, said his niece, Judy Kaenel Czajka. The Mass will take place at St. Brendan's Catholic Church, 310 South Van Ness Avenue. He had 348 works published in Playboy. His first work in Playboy was published in July 1963 and his last was in June this year, a magazine spokesman said. He was a production designer for the TV series Mister Magoo (1960 -- also a production planner), The Dick Tracy Show (1961) and Maya the Bee (1975 -- also a script editor), as well as the 1962 special Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol. Murphy was a storyboard artist for the 1966 TV series The Super 6 (where he was also a layout artist) and The Beagles, as well as The New Yogi Bear Show (1988), Garfield and Friends (1989) and The Dream Stone (1994-95). As well, he was a storyboard artist for Tom and Jerry: The Movie (1992) and the 1994 TV special Mole's Christmas. He was a storyboard designer for Disney's DuckTales (1987-88), and did story sketches for the 1989 movie Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland. In character design, he worked on The New Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1968), Wait Till Your Father Gets Home (1972-74), Hong Kong Phooey and Valley of the Dinosaurs (both 1974), The Mumbly Cartoon Show (1976), and Dinky Dog (1978) and The All-New Popeye Hour (1978). In addition, he was a layout artist on the 1972 TV series The Houndcats and the underground theatrical sequel The Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat (1974). A story director on Smurfs (1986), he was a writer for the Japanese series The Adventures of Pinocchio (1976) and Alice in Wonderland" (1983). He provided stories for the 1977 TV series C B Bears, as well as story continuity for the 1971 animated feature film Shinbone Alley. In 1982, he was a consultant on the extremely short-lived series Jokebook. Burial immediately following services will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, 5835 West Slauson Avenue in Culver City, California.
