"Millennium Giraffe" wins by a neck in Syracuse

Jong-shik Won's "A Millennium Giraffe" was named best animation Sunday evening at the fifth annual Syracuse International Film Festival. The 17-minute film had its United States premiere at the festival, which closed with an awards ceremony at the Palace Theatre. In the film, a son trying to restore his mother’s health must seek out the Millennium Giraffe, a magic animal who will help only in return for a sacrifice. Many other animated short films had their U.S. premieres at the festival. These included Bloody Merry Christmas by Jan Cechl (Czech Republic), Bojo by Mikayel Vatinyan (Armenia), The Box by Yong-jae Park (Korea), Camera (Korea), Christmas In Taxi by Jo Yung-Kung (Korea), City Of Oblivion (Taiwan), Escape From Hell (Korea), Fission by Kun-I Chang (Taiwan), The Soupfather by Tseng Hui Ming (Taiwan), The Woman With Pearls by Abi Foijo and Steven Brown (Taiwan), Wave Of Care by Alexandra Hetmerova (Czech Republic), and Woollen Dogs by Emma DeSwaee (Belgium).
