In the Animation World, what is the difference between a Mini Series and an Original Series?

I would guess that a mini series is of an extremely limited number of episodes- say like 4 or 5 parts. An original series is just something that hasn't been adapted from another version of that same story. Maybe, in a bit of a stretch, if the new work is significantly removed from the original and of substantially different story, it could be called "original"... but it would almost have to be understood that it's only original as far as characters and plot, not concept.

not exactly; many times a mini-series comoes before the regular series, so it wouldn't be a spin-off.
