Modern border added to Tom & Jerry titles for DVD?
Many Tom & Jerry cartoons on DVD seem to have a modern electronically-generated border around the opening title cards. Does anyone know why? Is it because the cards have needed to be shrunk to keep all the text within the TV graphics-safe area?

A good question, that has many possible answers. So many manipulations of our beloved cartoons have been done and butchered by "geniuses in charge". I know that sounds harsh, but we've been brain washed for years, and still to today, some movies still start with the caption, "this movie has been reformatted to fit your tv", which is technically incorrect, but they just keep it vague like that. As for the Tom & Jerry titles, who knows? I mean most of these were intended for theatrical releases, or preceded movies. There were no issues for the big screen. We need some studio lot engineers here to chime in for a solid answer. Anyone know anyone?

B Mode, are you trying to take on the man? Go get em, tiger! Haha, "brainwashing"? C'mon, it's not that big of a deal. I do find it distracting sometimes, the weird border, but that definitely doesn't stop me from enjoying the cartoon. Who knows why the DVD formatting specialists (shh, I don't know the correct term, so I made my own one up) decide to design some cartoons that way? Ah well, it's hard to tell with them sometimes. No worries though. When it comes to "butchering our beloved cartoons", they'd have to do something quite extraordinary...okay, B Mode, you do have a point. I bought this DVD once, and I will NEVER forget how horribly modified it was. http://www.amazon.com/...y-Duck/dp/B0006I686G First of all, they placed their company title, "Starling", into every part of the cartoon. Anything that resembled an official title, especially Acme, got replace with bold, ugly letters that shouted out at you from the screen. The explosions in the cartoons got "remastered", and so rather than taking in the warmth of a classic animated explosion, you get a lame explosion effect the video designer probably learned to make from high school. And of course, it didn't blend in at all. And there was this one outrageous edit they made on the joke, where a Romeo & Juliet adaptation was occurring on a stage. Someone in the audience was mocking it in some fashion, and so the animal playing Romeo goes off screen to beat the person up. INSTEAD of that, Starling Films placed in a laughably bad sound clip of someone shouting "SHUT UP!". B Mode, come with me and fight the system! We cannot allow any more DVDs like that to be made.

As much as I love the traditional style of cartoons, two dimensional characters can be rather frustrating sometimes. Exhibit A:

Yeah it's bad Cam, and it's a big deal to those who hold it closely. I wasn't very clear but what I meant by brain washing was more directed towards commercial movies shown on TV with the industry term - Pan and Scan. The general public is so used to seeing a "full screen", meaning every inch of their display covered with information, no one told them that their actually missing calculated information, and the Pan and Scan is a "Re-Direction". This is a very import violation of the director's vision. The frequent analogy I use is, take a book, read everything but the first and last chapters. You'll get the gist of it, but you're not getting the full story. Some people like my cousin still don't care, that's the brainwash effect. The adding of any logo such as Sony's blatant scar upon the Underdog DVD release is down right criminal. There was a whole backlash a few years back, but what you gonna do? You can't stop the everyday disregard of our prized cartoons, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

I've been busy procrastinating with writing music, doing AP work, all of that junk. I'm trying to get a band together, since my music cannot play itself. But yeah, I'm trying to get back here as much as I can. No work right now until Sunday, so YAY!!! Lol, I think the last time I saw ya was like 2 years ago. O.O Whatcha been up to, my main cartoon freak?
