Mouse-catching Cat--fold into accordian and spring
I remember a cartoon where a super mouse-catching cat would spot a mouse, and with his eyes fixed squarely on the prize he would back up, all the while bunching himself up into an accordian shape and then bam, he would spring forward and catch the mouse. And I believe he tried to teach his technique to another cat who would back up into the accordian shape correctly, but when he tried to spring forward he would just sputter and pop and not really go anywhere. (Though I think in the end he finally got the hang of it.) For many years I would have sworn that the cartoon was "Gay Purr-ee". But I finally watched it a few years ago and, while this movie has the story I remember and the lead character is a great "mouser", it does not have the animation I remember. So I can't tell you if the cartoon I'm trying to find is a short or a feature, but if anyone can help me out here I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks, Dan Lega

Sorry about no responses so far....but as far as I know, the only thing I know remotely close to this, was an episode of "Garfield & Friends".....fuzzy here.....but there was a scene of a typical "cartoon cat & mouse chase". I think Garfield (watching this scene on TV) muses, "Ever notice they pass the same lamp 50 times?")....the stereotype cartoon cat chases this mouse, mouse runs into mouse hole, cat slams into wall, and turns into an accordion shape. IIRC, Garfield was tapped to replace this cat at the end of the episode (maybe the other cat had enough).... Sorry if this doesn't match, but that's all I can relate. I don't even know the name of the episode. Sorry.... cd

Thanks for the help, but it was not a Garfield cartoon. I forgot to add the date that I saw it -- it was in the 1960's. So it has to be 1960's or older. Thanks again for trying! -Dan Lega
