Opening credits: guy sleepwalking wearing his pyja

So basically, I'm trying to remember a childhood classic here. I live in Australia and I know it aired on the ABC and most likely ABC Kids.
All I can remember is the opening credits where you see a man sleepwalking along the town wearing his pyjamas. He wears glasses and wherever he walks you see his footsteps as a trail behind. He is somewhat of a detective, solving town msyteries, etc.
Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!
Note: something tells me that it could possibly be French. :/ Or of French make anyway.
