Old friends Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson will voice a pair of animated gobblers in Bedrock Studios' first project, buddy film Turkeys. The project was announced Wednesday by industry veterans Cary Granat and Ed Jones. Bedrock aims to produce family films with budgets of less than $35 million. Now in pre-production with Ash Brannon (Toy Story 2, Surf's Up) directing, Turkeys features Wilson and Harrelson as Reggie and Brock, who discover a time machine and travel back to the first Thanksgiving in a bid to remove themselves from the menu. Set for release in 2001, Turkeys is written and produced by John J. Strauss (There's Something About Mary) and David I. Stern (Open Season 2). "I flipped out about the concept for Turkeys and started yapping about the possibilities," said Peter Farrelly, the executive producer. "I guess I kind of glommed on." "The key to our business model is that we believe we'll be able to develop event films for a price," Granat told Variety. Granat is the former CEO executive of Walden Media (who left in late 2008), while Jones is a former executive for Industrial Light and Magic. Bedrock Studios hopes to extend its reach beyond movies to TV, publishing and digital media. The studio has also acquired the rights to children's novels Rats of NIMH by Robert C. O'Brien, A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle, and Dinosaur Bob by William Joyce. It's actively developing projects for all three.
