"Press Your Luck" Has Returned To GSN You Must Register Before You Can Post

Well, I thought I'd share this with you people...

GSN (Game Show Network) had recently picked up the rights to air reruns of Press Your Luck as of last Monday, October 15. The last lease involved episodes from February 1984 (the Tuesday after the Winter Olympics was over) to mid-November 1985.

But this time, the current lease starts from the 1983 premiere episode, which hadn't been shown since the original CBS airings! And sometime next week, we will be seeing episodes that have not been shown since USA Network last aired them in 1992.

So, if you're a fan of Press Your Luck, I advise you to record the new-to-GSN episodes while they're on the air. I certainly am for sure!

Re: "Press Your Luck" Has Returned To GSN [In reply to] You Must Register Before You Can Post

Whammy animation by Savage Steve Holland.

GSN did revive "Press Your Luck" in the mid-2000s under the title "Whammy" with new games hosted by Todd Newton. The late Peter Tomarken hosted a Whammy episode with the contestants defeated by Michael Larson in 1984 on the original PYL and Michael Larson's brother competing.

Larson won $110,237 by memorizing the flashing light patterns on the PYL board...sadly Larson lost most of his savings in financial investments gone wrong and in a robbery and dying from throat cancer in the mid 1990s.

I don't get GSN on my local cable package...have to pay more for the digital cable lineup tier package with GSN.

That's good...

I feel that TV Stations seem to be going back to their roots...I wonder...

Re: "Press Your Luck" Has Returned To GSN [In reply to] You Must Register Before You Can Post

I was really surprised to learn a few weeks ago that GSN only picked up 50 episodes of Press Your Luck this time around, instead of 200. Same for Jim Perry's Card Sharks. Maybe FremantleMedia raised the cost to lease such shows at some point this year for some reason, and GSN is leasing the episodes for a shorter time as a way to be economical, perhaps? Or was it because the show that previously aired in that block (Password Plus and Karn's Family Feud) was not doing so well in that slot, and they probably decided to lease just 50 episodes of each of their replacements for the sake of ratings history in that slot? The first hour with Dick Clark's Pyramid shows is likely the best hour for ratings in terms of classics. And Super Password does really well despite being up against current episodes of The Price is Right on CBS.

Though Password Plus is not gone completely - even if it only airs on Saturday and Sunday mornings to start the network's broadcasting day. And Karn's Family Feud gets enough airings as it is - though fewer than there used to be.

I guess it's safe to say my TV watching days will be pretty much nil when 2013 comes. Unless they add more episodes or even bring back Bob Eubanks' Card Sharks someday.

EDIT: As of this edit at 11:10 a.m. NST, Press Your Luck is, oddly enough, airing right now. It's the Tuesday episode from the short Thanksgiving Week. After tomorrow, 2 more episodes to go before GSN reverts back to the premiere (actually, this time around, one more episode after tomorrow, since Ep. 049 will not air this time around due to the "short-notice decision" of airing the Boxing Day marathon of Harvey's Feud.
