Reminder to longtime members!

Try to make an effort to welcome our first time poster by laying out the sign. If you feel like it, go ahead tell them about our wonderful sight and other avenues like the comic book database. You can also suggest to read the forum rules again to make sure they are not immediately faced with hostility. Thanks. B.

I tried many webpages that's about cartoons, but I can't seem to get them activated. This site, I got in and I feel very welcomed on this site.

Cool Cleveland, so you know how important it is to feel welcomed. Thank you for exercising my point.

I can do that; I have used the welcome sign before in the past, though I admit that I sometimes slip and forget to when I'm typing in a hurry (usually while I'm at work). But first impressions are lasting ones, so I'll make a point to lay out the mat for view posters from now on.

I usually try to welcome first timers with the greeting, "Welcome to BCDB", or I just type this:

Cool Cleveland, so you know how important it is to feel welcomed. Thank you for exercising my point. I also like this site so I can stop blogging about the real world for awhile. (The real world is okay but...so many people have so many opinions that it can make anyone's head spin.)

And another note...there's no flaming on here either. Last week, I had to stay away from one website because someone there was annoying me. But on here, there's no annoyance. And that's good.

Yes, that is a good thing. I'm always amazed at some of the comments people post in other forums. It seems like all they do is argue with one another.

There have been some flame wars here in the past. Most of those members were either banned quickly or have mellowed out since then. Dave really does enforce his no personal attacks rule. I guess the basic idea of that is if what someone has said is so full or error that it warrents a response, just a simple debunking of the false info should be sufficient. If you can't dispute the post without labelling the poster as crazy or stupid or whatever, then you really don't have enough intelligence to truly backup what you're saying. With a rule of thumb like that, you really see clearly who's good at these online conversations and who's not.
