Ruby-Spears Shows on DVD... To Be or Not to Be?
Here's a "to be or not to be" question... Ruby-Spears shows on DVD. Could it be that Warner Bros. Entertainment might have to wait until both Joe Ruby and Ken Spears have died before they can release DVDs of shows made by these two men? I am hoping they'll clear the dust over this matter before they die. ~Ben

Filmways owned Ruby-Spears Productions for the first three years in operation (1978-1980) when R-S produced "Fangface", "Plastic Man", and the first seasons of "Heathcliff (and Dingbat)" and "Thundarr the Barbarian". Taft Broadcasting, which owned Hanna-Barbera, bought Ruby-Spears Productions around 1981 and was part of the package purchased by Turner Broadcasting when Ted Turner purchased Hanna-Barbera in 1990. That is why the 1970s and 1980s-era Ruby-Spears cartoons were shown on Cartoon Network. Of course, everything Turner bought is now part of the Time-Warner empire. Time-Warner could release those 70s-80s era R-S programs on DVD if they choose, but they have not. Ruby-Spears continued in production as a separate studio (never owned by Turner/Time Warner) after the Turner purchase in the 1990s, producing "Mega Man" and "Skysurfer Strike Force" for the Bobhot syndication network. Those shows were not part of the Turner purchase and never shown on Cartoon Network. Some episodes of "Skysurfer Strike Force" were released on budget DVD and home video but not the entire episode package.
