Santa Claus in Comin' to Town on ABC

I failed to look and see if this was in the news section but this is the only Rankin Bass cartoon to come on Network TV besides Rudolph since they were vaulted iirc.

Doesn't "The Year Without a Santa Claus" also air? Plus, "Frosty the Snowman" is a Rankin-Bass toon as well.

Yeah, I remember Frosty airing on TV last year, though not sure if it was ABC or CBS.

Unless I'm mistaken, the original Frosty the Snowman still airs on CBS and it's sequels air on basic cable.

I don't count Frosty even though it counts technically.

Well, it's one of just a handful of specials that R-B made using traditional, 2-D cel animation. I always liked "Frosty" and counted it right up there with "Rudolph" and "Santa Claus". I can't, unfortunately, say the same about "Frosty Returns"... I really wish it hadn't been farmed out to Bill Melendez and Lee Mendelson. As great as their "Peanuts" specials are, I think they seriously missed the mark with that one. Some of the character-designs (especially the ones done for those voiced by Jonathan Winters and Brian Doyle-Murray) look just plain hideous to me. Getting back OT, I was always under the impression that all the R-B specials were aired on ABC as part of their "25 Days of Christmas" line-up. Why didn't ABC acquire the broadcast rights to "Frosty"?

Why didn't ABC acquire the broadcast rights to "Frosty"? It's ABC Family that airs The 25 Days of Christmas, which FAM has been doing since the channel was owned by 20th Century Fox, as to why Disney didn't acquire the original Frosty the Snowman, I guess that it's for the same reason why they didn't acquire Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer from CBS.

You are so right. Frosty Returns is just BAD. The Peanuts revivals in 1994 are too but the rest of the Peanuts special (including the recent ones) are great.
