Scooby's All-Star Laff-A-Lympics
|
|
|
Hi, Does anyone know the proper segment breakdown for Scooby's All-Star Laff-A-Lympics and its sequel Scooby's All-Stars? Here's my guess: *Opening title (1 min) *Opening cliffhanger (50 sec) *"Laff-A-Lympics" segment #1 (11 min) *Segment 2 preview (10 sec) *"Scooby-Doo" segment, part 1 (11 min) *Segment 3 preview (10 sec) *"Blue Falcon & Dynomutt" segment (11 min) *Segment 4 preview (10 sec) *"Laff-A-Lympics" segment #2 (11 min) *Segment 5 preview (10 sec) *"Scooby-Doo" segment, part 2 (11 min) *Segment 6 preview (10 sec) *"Captain Caveman & the Teen Angels" segment (22 min) *Closing cliffhanger (50 sec) *Closing title (1 min) For the 1978-79 season titled Scooby's All-Stars delete Dynomutt from the roster as he got his own series in June 1978. The Scooby segments were reruns until November 4, 1978 when the Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? 7:00 am PST airing was cancelled and added to the block.

I remember that after the opening, "Captain Caveman" was the first segment in the show, and it began with the familiar intro with CC bouncing up and down and yelling his name. (Even before the first "Laff-A-Lympics" segment.) Then as I recall, other segments would alternate. Beyond that, I don't remember much else. But Captain Caveman definitely appeared at the top of the show. I don't think I watched "Scooby's All-Stars," so I really can't be of much help to you on that one. I don't get Boomerang. How does Boomerang run it?

I can't speak for how Cartoon Network/Boomerang runs it, but I would suppose they would use the syndicated version that had been in circulation since 1980 (Laff-A-Lympics segments only). However, wouldn't the Mumbly segments (originally from The Tom & Jerry/Grape Ape/Mumbly Show) have been reran on SASLAL/SAS? Because, Mumbly represented the Really Rottens team (along with Captain Caveman and his Teen Angels and the newly-created Dread Baron and the Dalton Brothers). ~Ben

Captain Caveman And The Teen Angels were on the Scooby Doobies team, not the Really Rottens. The RR's consisted of villains, all of whom were specficalluy created for the series(aside from Mumbly). <br>

I don't get Boomerang. How does Boomerang run it? They don't, at least regularly. Neither channel has ever aired the entire series of Scooby's All-Star Laff-A-Lympics or Scooby's All-Stars as a whole; generally, CN/Boomerang only trots out the Laff-A-Lymipcs segments every couple of years, usually to tie-in during an Olympic year. The last time I remember seeing it on Cartoon Network was around '95 or '96, to coincide with the Summer Olympics. Of course nowadays, Laff would be completely out of place on CN; perhaps Boom will show it in time for the upcoming Games in China.

Captain Caveman And The Teen Angels were on the Scooby Doobies team, not the Really Rottens. The RR's consisted of villains, all of whom were specficalluy created for the series(aside from Mumbly). The Rottens team: Mumbly-Star of his own 70s cartoon segment in "The Tom and Jerry/Grape Ape/Mumbly Show". Brother of Muttley from "Wacky Races" Dread Baron- presumably a Dick Dastardly clone...either Paul Winchell was unavailable to reprise Dick's voice or there were ownership issues since "Wacky Races" was co-produced by Merrill Heatter and Bob Quigley (1960s-70s "Hollywood Squares" and other game shows). The later "Dastardly and Muttley and Their Flying Machines" was produced solely by Hanna-Barbera. The Creepley Family (Mr. Creepley, Mrs. Creepley, Junior Creepley)- The Gruesome Family from the "Flintstones" in modern clothes. The Dalton Brothers (Dinky, Dirty, Dastardly)- presumably villains who appeared in a Huckleberry Hound cartoon. Hanna-Barbera would animate a different set of Dalton Brothers for a series with the European western comic character "Lucky Luke". original Rottens characters: Daisy Mayhem Sooey Pig Orful Octopus The Great Fondue Magic Rabbit

Mumbly made his debut as a later addition to The Tom & Jerry Grape Ape Show. The Mumbly segments never aired as part of Scooby's All-Star Laff-A-Lympics.

I think I can get this show's time-stretching straight, fair and square once and for all, if you include the reruns of the 1969-71 Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? in the roster. I think the lineup for 1977-78 (as Scooby's All-Star Laff-A-Lympics) was: *Captain Caveman & the Teen Angels *Laff-A-Lympics (segment #1) *Scooby-Doo '76 (part 1) *Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? (1969) *Blue Falcon & Dynomutt *Laff-A-Lympics (segment #2) *Scooby-Doo '76 (part 2) For 1978-79 (as Scooby's All-Stars), I think it was: *Captain Caveman & the Teen Angels *Laff-A-Lympics (segment #1) *Scooby-Doo '76 (part 1) *Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? (1969) *Laff-A-Lympics (segment #2) *Scooby-Doo '76 (part 2) Let me know whether or not the classic 1969-71 SDWAY episodes had ever re-aired within any of the Laff-A-Lympics blocks. I'm quite sure they did, given the extra 30-min space provided by the re-titled The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Show in December 1976. ~Ben
