Serious Cartoon set in a Fantasy Jungle World.

Hiya, I seen a cartoon when i was little (about 18 year ago) and ive never seen it since and would really love to see it again... The cartoon was a serious non funny one. It had a white humanoid creature as the main character and was set in a jungle on a fantasy world. At the end the main character falls down a hole and falls for a long time and as he's falling he turns into a flying creature (like a manta ray) and flies off. Any ideas ?

Your description sounds like Skywhales(83) An alien tribe of hunters hunt the skywhale. Occasionally one of the tribe is afflicted with a condition that compels that member of the tribe to enter a trance state. His eyes gloss over and he marches mindlessly toward a mysterious deep pit. The hunter falls over the edge and transforms into a skywhale himself. -More Info- Skywhales Straydawg

I'm still amused someone would go to the trouble to do a fansite for just this film, but it's nice that there is one. I've seen this film a number of times and find it interesting if only because it makes you contemplate the world these characters live in through their actions and environment.
