Some Suggestions for the Forums Reply With Quote Reply To Topic

I have a few minor suggestions that just might improve things here at the BCDB Forums:

-I think that certain types of redundant threads should be locked automatically, or better yet, any thread topic that is generally considered spam should not be allowed to be posted on the forums at all. If someone wants to plug their own site or get people to sign an online petition, then they should make that message their signature. Otherwise, if this person wants to do this and this alone and not take part in any discussions, then it should be considered spam and said thread should be locked immediately. Seriously, don't leave a thread open and then get angry when people post on it.

-Also, it might not be a bad idea to give members the option to block other members. If there's someone else on the board who routinely pulls your chain (whether said chain pulling is intentional or not), them you could block that members' posts so that he/she would not be able to talk to you.

-Finally, and this is just generally, I really think that some of us here really need to make more of an effort to be civil to other members. Recent incidents here have caused me to consider stop posting on the Big Cartoon Forum entirely. I don't want to do this, but if things continue the way that they have been, then I see no other course of action to take. After all, we're never going to evolve as a species until we learn to pretend to like each other.

Some very good suggestions, SpaceDemon.

I think also that any threads that start going in circles, with no hope of a satisfactory resolution, should be locked immediately.

In addition, any redundant threads (i.e., the same thread topic posted in different discussion boards) should be immediately yanked.

Also, is there any particular reason why we have so much old stuff in the Moderator Sandbox? Can't we permanently delete most of the threads which have been moved there, because they serve no other purpose but to annoy the general BCDB community?

One other suggestion I would add is that we really need someone to be monitoring the MGM discussions board; since Bmode has been MIA for some time now.

I'm not sure what happened to him (and I do hope that he's alive and well); but right now that discussion board has no one to moderate it. From time to time I've visited there to check for spam or offensive posts and reported any that I've found to the Administrators.

I would like to volunteer to be at least a temporary mod there; until such time when Bmode decides to return. I don't know how much time I would be able to spend moderating that board, however. I've slacked off a bit in visiting this forum on a regular basis.

Maybe Damfine and one or two other mods would also like to volunteer as well?

>>> I think also that any threads that start going in circles, with no hope of a satisfactory resolution, should be locked immediately.

WHy lock? Just have a mod post this is a bout over, and unless you have anythng new to add this is closed and SOFT-Lock it. Unl;ess there is any real reason to lock...

>>> In addition, any redundant threads (i.e., the same thread topic posted in different discussion boards) should be immediately yanked.

It would also help if people stopped posting "SPAM" to them before they were locked. Just report the post and I will get rid of it.

>>> One other suggestion I would add is that we really need someone to be monitoring the MGM discussions board; since Bmode has been MIA for some time now.

Fixed.

>>> Also, is there any particular reason why we have so much old stuff in the Moderator Sandbox? Can't we permanently delete most of the threads which have been moved there, because they serve no other purpose but to annoy the general BCDB community?

I LIKE to have an archive. Humor me. No one goes there but me anyway...

>>> I think that certain types of redundant threads should be locked automatically

I cannot be everywhere, and I do not read (and follow) every thread. So report a thread to me if this is the case and I will wind it up...

>>> Also, it might not be a bad idea to give members the option to block other members.

Not a bad idea, but I am not sure how to impiment this ()technically). I will give it some thought... but hoinestly do not hold your breath. I thinkk it might be complicated task

>>> Finally, and this is just generally, I really think that some of us here really need to make more of an effort to be civil to other members.

Again, PLEASE make me aware of this!!!1

There is plenty of civility here. Not one person has been rude that I can see.

I beg to differ, but to be fair it's just 1 individual here who seems to go out of the way to give various members here, myself included, a hard time occasionally. I'm not going to indict anyone here publicly, but the next time I detect the stench of snark coming from this individual, I will make Dave aware of it via PM.

I concur...because we don't talk about Politics nor Religion (unless it's in cartoons).

I like it here because there's no talk about Politics nor Religion, it's like this song...

I know this is a cover from Friends of Distinction, but I like the Isaac Hayes version better...and those debates just go in circles!
