TV's top 25 put-downs published You Must Register Before You Can Post

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7264321.stm

I think the Muppet put down must be the best out of those!

I think it needs to be specified that this list is bascially, with the exception of 6 or 7, all British shows. Which of course means almost nothing to most people in the States. There are some notables on there, like House or Cheers, but that's really it.

"You dirty old man!"- "Steptoe and Son"

"You big dummy!"- "Sanford and Son"

Not much of a difference, really...

I'm British and generally I prefer American humour

Re: TV's top 25 put-downs published [In reply to] You Must Register Before You Can Post

For what it's worth, cartoon character Alexandra Cabot, from Josie and the Pussycats has a rapier tongue. She's drawn blood from quite a few targets:

A public address announcement advises, "Phone call for Missy Melody."
Advises Alexandra, "Answer the ding-a-ling, you ding-a-ling."

Josie attempts to hide from a villain in a large cloth sack.
Observes Alexandra, "Congratulations, Josie. You've finally found the perfect dress: a potato sack."

Her brother, Alex Cabot III, gets an idea. "I'm getting a brainstorm."
Amends Alexandra, "It's probably only a small drizzle."

I think part of Alexandra's charm is that she rarely gives up without a fight. Villains and Fate might defeat Alexandra, but not come away unscathed.

Actually, there are some better Muppet put downs than the ones that were listed there. One I always liked involved Statler and Waldorf. One of them (I forget which one) brings his baby grandson to the theater. The other old man remarks "He looks just like you!" after which, the baby responds with "Yeah, but I won't be bald and stupid forever!".

I'm surprised that the ones Dr. Smith made to the robot were excluded. When it came to putdowns, Dr. Smith was king!

Should we risk it?

I love British stand ups like Peter Kay, Johnathan Ross and Lenny Henry. The only show that sticks out for me is Only Fools and Horses oh and Red Dwarf and Top Gear

Here is a Statler and Waldorf put-down I like. I don't remember who says what:

Statler- I like the show so far.
Waldorf- It hasn't started yet.
Statler- That's what I like about it.

Even though It's not on there, I like Red Forman's putdown on anyone. Calling them all "Dumbasses"!

Re: TV's top 25 put-downs published [In reply to] You Must Register Before You Can Post

I always liked the way Hawkeye, Trapper John and BJ Hunnicutt would insult Frank Burns on M*A*S*H:

Frank: "...I'm here to relieve you, Captain."
Hawkeye: "You do resemble an enema!"

Frank (upon entering the Swamp, is repulsed by Trapper John's smoking): "...Ugh, disgusting! Why is it everytime I come in here it's disgusting?"
Hawkeye: "...I think that says it all, Frank!"

Hawkeye (upon discovering that Frank has gone A.W.O.L.): "Uh, oh..."
B.J: "...What?"
Hawkeye: "...He took his gun and his toothbrush"
B.J: "Shooting his mouth off again!"

And then, of course, there was the ongoing feud between Cpl. Klinger and Sgt. Zale:

Zale: "...See 'ya later, buzzard-beak!"
Klinger: "...If my dog had your face, I'd shave his butt and teach him to walk backwards!"

-------------------------

"Don't crush that dwarf, hand me the pliers!"

Another good burn Hawkeye gave to Frank:

"You should see a procologist for possible brain damage."
