Tennesse Tuxedo (1963-1966)

Do you guys remember a semi-educational cartoon show called Tennesse Tuxedo which is a production of Total Television Productions best known for stuff such as King Leonardo and Tooter Turtle. All i can say is that what attracts me to this show along with the Phineas J. Whoope segments which were actually pretty informative, were the character themeselves, Stanely Livingston, Flunky, Baldy, Yakkety Yak, Jerbioah Jump, Tiger Tornado, all interesting raw material and the designs themeselves underneath the crude Gamma Productions exterior (but even the animation here and in the Jay Ward stuff do give me an extremely clear explaination and obversation on how a certain exact style of Limited Television animation works), i could imagaine (and at the same would defiently work) as a 1950s-1960s Hanna Barbera production, anyway the backing segements for it's 1963-1964 run was new execulsive episodes of King and Odie and the Hunter and later replacing King and Odie and The Hunter for it's 1964-1966 run was The World of Commander McBragg and repeats of Tooter Turtle (imagine what the new ones would have been like on this show when they used Gamma Productions from Mexico instead of TV Spots/Creston Studios from Hollywood who were mostly on commercials and also produced Popeye cartoons for King Features Syndicate in 1960) Anyway, this is all i have to say for now, let's begin.

Interesting, and good news i read, however i thought that Klondike Kat was actually made for The Underdog Show rather than Tennesse Tuxedo, in actuality i thought that the replacements for King and Odie and The Hunter besides Tooter Turtle (TV Spots/Creston repeats, no new exclusive Gamma Productions stuff sadly) was Commander McBragg. I think Commander McBragg is one of my favorite segments of Tennesse Tuxedo, especially the Khyber Pass one is so funny, the Val-Mar Studios/Gamma Productions animation in that one is hilarious and extremely funny, it's too bad they were shut down in late 1968, i wonder what caused them to close up, maybe they got folded into another studio or maybe they located somewhere (like Spain) and assumed a new name there, anyway i wonder what it would be like if they animated well into even the late-1990s.

voice cast: Don Adams as Tennessee Tuxedo (several years before "Get Smart") Bradley Bolke as Chumley/Jerboa Jump Larry Storch as Mr. Whoopee Mort Marshall as Stanley Livingston Kenny Delmar as the Narrator/Flunkey/Baldy Music by Winston Sharples, I think. One of the first cartoon shows with educational content on science and physics within the storyline. Very enjoyable. Sometimes things work out for Tennessee in the end...and sometimes they backfire badly.

As i think of this show working as a late 1950s to early 1960s Hanna Barbera product, Here's what the Vocal Cast would be like if this really was a Hanna Barbera production.... Daws Butler - Tennessee Tuxedo (Jackie Gleason characterization voice) , Stanely Livingston (Phil Silvers characterization voice) others. Alan Reed (from The Flintstones) - Chumley. Paul Frees - Baldy. Mel Blanc - Yakkety Yak, Flunky, Jerboa Jump, Rocky Maninoff. William Conrad - Narrator. John Stepenson - Mr Whoopee. The theme tunes would have been provided by the legendary Hoyt Curtin. other voices would have been provided by Don Messick, Jean Vander Pyl, Hal Smith, June Foray and Jerry Hausener and George O'Hanolin. Please don't take this seriously, it's just to give an idea of imagination, it's about time we all put our imaginations to extremely good use on this forum. Anyway, about Winston Sharples providing the theme tunes, well in most cases that is extremely true as heard from the screen, in fact it should be noted that they were really sparsely used in this show, the real theme tunes for this show (like the opening theme) were provided by Chet Stover, one of the TTV key people and was a tune artist as well. I think the last episode to use Winston Sharples' music was Tale of A Tiger, i think, cause really not that much episodes of Tennessee Tuxedo are online now and there are lots i want to see, such as the one where they are TV testers and one with Mr Whoopee telling Tennesse and Chumley about Aztecs which introduces Jeroboa Jump and also the one where Chumley gets a toothache. And the earliest episode to NOT use any Sharples cues and instead have Chet Stover's cues completely replace them was in Wreck of A Record. Anyway this is actually something that should be shown on Treehouse TV (in place of the extremely overrated and grating Dora the Explorer which should have not been created or even thought up in the first place, i mean if you want to learn Spanish, there are schools that teach Spanish, i know Dora is not for me and it's aimed for really little kids and there are also fans to consider, but even the little kids who are not fans don't need Dora if they want to know Spanish and the seemingly retarded Toopy and Binoo, come on that show can damage the brains of little kids and do nonsense and therefore BAD things and it's bad even for a kids show) and also PBS Kids (not something like that idiotic Purple Dinosaur which hopefully you know what i'm talking about and not the lousy, come on does he even look like an aardvark, the design on that show is extremely terrible and so is the animation), Kids could actually REALLY learn something from this and severely expand their minds and do GOOD things.

Yes, in some episodes there were snatches of the stock music package that Sharples had recordedin the late 1950's. One episode that comes to mind is the one where Tennessee and Chumley are attempting to build a log cabin-like structure for their very large pet dog. More often than not the Sharples cues appear to have been mixed together with other stock music cues by various composers.

Hmmm, Zavkram, there were also episodes that no longer used the Sharples music cues anymore for the remainder of the series' run, personally, i feel hearing the Win Sharples cues on the Tennessee Tuxedo segments and ALL TTV cartoons to be extremely out of place and jarring and does not make any sense at all one bit, i actually really thought that Chet Stover's cues fit much better and actually made more sense, because after all, Chester Stover (along with writer Buck Biggers) were one of TTV's key people.

You're correct... eventually the Sharples music-cues were phased out in later seasons. I had meant to mention that as well... And yes, the juxtaposition between those cues and someone else's music was a bit jarring. In the aforementioned episode, however, I thought such cues as "Oh, where, oh, where has my little dog gone?" were apt for the action they were accompanying. I have to say that the stories for each episode were quite good and the writing often hilarious... In one episode the boys are trying to start their own newspaper. Chumley suggests calling it "The Walrus Street Journal" The only character I didn't care much for was Yak... I thought he was a tad annoying.

I like the Tennessee Tuxedo Series...it reminds me slightly of Wally Gator...except Tennesse has a sidekick and talks to Mr Whoopi for advice. But BOTH characters have an pwner to annoy...Wally Gator has Mr. Twiddle...and Tennessee has Stanley Livingston...who's named after two discoverers of Africa when they met....
And there's a song about it from one of my favorite bands.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wdh08TjksVw

Speaking of posting a song about Livingston and Stan, there's also an episode where Tennesse, Baldy and Chumley make a song of their own - Abracadabra, Change-O-Range-O-Ree. Have you've seen or remember that episode, Wreck of a Record?.
