"Tintin" wins award for Best Animated 3D Feature You Must Register Before You Can Post

Three animated feature films received Lumiere statuettes from the International 3D Society at a black-tie ceremony Wednesday night at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles.

The Adventures Of Tintin: Secret Of The Unicorn (Paramount Pictures) was named Best Animated 3D Feature. Puss in Boots was honored for Best Stereography - Animation, while The Lion King (Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures) -- originally released in 1994 -- received an award for Best 2D to 3D Conversion.

During the third annual creative arts ceremony, the society bestowed 28 honors for "distinguished achievement."

Hugo (Paramount Pictures) swept several categories, including Best Live Action 3D Feature, Best Stereography – Live Action and Best 3D Moment of the Year.

Hugo director Martin Scorsese received the society's Harold Lloyd Filmmaker Award, which was presented by Lloyd's granddaughter, Suzanne Lloyd.

Sony Corporation of America was honored with the Sir Charles Wheatstone Award for education at its Sony 3D Technology Center in Culver City, California.

"The range and quality of 3D production across all platforms reached extraordinary new heights this year," said society chairman Jim Mainard of DWA.

"Our theme for the night was 'art form.' Our honorees demonstrated that 3D is coming of age as an artistic statement, as well as technical marvel," said society president Jim Chabin.

The society's television partner, 3net, a 3D TV channel by Discovery, Sony and IMAX, will air a one-hour special, Your World in 3D, highlighting nominated works and red carpet interviews from the ceremony.

The International 3D Society is a community of professionals dedicated to the advancement of the art and sciences of stereoscopic 3D technologies and content through education, hands on demonstration and celebration. International 3D Society sponsors include signature sponsors Panasonic and Korea Telecom, as well as founding sponsors 3ality Technica, Dolby, DreamWorks Animation, IMAX, MasterImage 3D, PIXAR, Sony Corporation of America, The Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures and XPAND 3D.
