It's a shame that the two are not in it? However, the focus is on His Mouse Friday for me and how they're going to release it? If you edit it, you might as well leave it off, don't cha think?

The only controversial scene in Mouse Cleaning is at the end when Tom emerges from the pile of coal, his face covered with soot in blackface fashion, and starts talking like Steppin' Fetchit. But for cryin' out loud, they just released Droopy's Good Deed with all its controversial scenes intact! Why are they pussyfooting around Mouse Cleaning?!! I can't think of any controversial scenes in Casanova Cat, except perhaps one in which Jerry briefly emerges in blackface. Isn't this cartoon the one where Tom and Butch vie for the attention of a female cat up in her swanky penthouse? Someone at GAC suggested that maybe it won't be released because of a music rights issue. I highly doubt it... if this is the cartoon I'm thinking of, the only popular songs used are "Over the Rainbow" (from The Wizard of Oz) and (I think) "Broadway Rhythm" (from any number of earlier MGM musicals). Composer Scott Bradley had free access to the MGM Music Library and frequently peppered his scores with tunes used in other MGM films. I think that MGM actually insisted on this practice; as it helped to plug not only the songs, but the films in which they appeared.

I think it's time for us to craft a carefully-worded petition, complaining about WHV's general lack of care and attention afforded to the preservation and distribution of the MGM cartoon library. They clearly have been treating these cartoons as bastardized stepchildren, and have not given them the same consideration as the classic Warner Bros. cartoons. This issue becomes even more frustrating considering the amount of time and effort lavished on the recent Popeye franchise. You would think that WHV had finally redeemed themselves with the release of the 1st Volume of Fleischer Popeye cartoons. Those look and sound fabulous and the bonus features are very generous. The upcoming volume of LTGC also looks to be a truly great reissue. So why does WHV keep f*****g-up with the Tom and Jerry cartoons?!!!! I still haven't received my replacement discs for the first 2 volumes of The Tom and Jerry Spotlight Collection; and this is the second time I've had to call their customer service to place an order. Either they never sent the discs the first time around, or they simply got lost in the mail. Maybe we should all storm the WHV stronghold, carrying pitchforks and torches, and demand access to the film vaults and digital remastering facilities--so we can all make our own dream compilation DVD's. I apologize for the vociferousness of my comments, but I'm really ticked-off over this situation!

It makes absolutely no sense that these cartoons get this treatment, especially since other sets from the same company get good treatment. You're not the only person who is ticked-off

This just in: I received an E-mail from Amazon.com, earlier this morning, advertising 10% off the advertised retail price of The Tom and Jerry Spotlight Collection, Vols. 1-3. This 6-DVD set, which packages the first two volumes with the forthcoming third volume, will be released on the same date, September 11, 2007, as the third volume. There are no details on Amazon.com as to whether or not this new set will contain the replacement discs for the first two volumes; or even if Casanova Cat and Mouse Cleaning would be included on this set (in order to placate customers who complained about the omissions on Volume 3.) I'm still waiting for my replacement discs. When I called WHV two weeks ago I was informed that the replacement discs were currently out of stock, and that it might take at least a week before they are restocked. Personally, I think WHV has been jerking me around!

More news on T&J Vol. 3: I was just browsing the forums in GAC when I came across some info from a member, Matthew Hunter. Apparently he was able to pick up a copy of Vol. 3 last week at Wal-Mart. He has watched most of the set and reports, sadly, that His Mouse Friday has been edited! The little pygmy at the end of the cartoon who smacks his lips while eyeballing Jerry and says, "Mmmm, barbecued mouse..." has been cropped out, although the soundtrack remains intact. In addition, A Mouse in the House has the original Lillian Randolph voice on the soundtrack, but I don't know if the oven blackface gag with Tom and Butch has been edited out. None of this bodes well for Volume 3. I will keep my ears open for any more info about the 3-Volume, 6-DVD set.
