Walter Mitty Characters
If you have seen the 1947 movie "Walter Mitty", this was a character who dreams a lot and can't tell what is real and what isn't. I think the best example is Orson T. Pig from "Garfield and Friends" because in many episodes, he would daydream. Another one is Snoopy when he's the WWI Flying Ace. Any others?

Well, the most obvious one would be The Secret Lives of Waldo Kitty, which ran on NBC from Sept. 6, 1975 to Sept. 4, 1976. There was also the "Magnificent Muttley " segments on H-B's Dastardly & Muttley in their Flying Machines. However, I should point out that not every character who daydreams is automatically a Walter Mitty-esque character. The big gimmick with Walter Mitty was that he was meek and timid in real life, but in his fantasies, he was bold, fierce and heroic. Some characters just have overactive imaginations.

Little Audrey frequently had Walter Mitty tendencies. A number of her Famous Studios cartoons (e.g. Goofy Goofy Gander and Tarts And Flowers, both released in 1950) portrayed her daydreaming that she was in some fantasy land or other.

Leonardo Productions' "Tooter The Turtle" had very serious bouts of living fantasy lives in every story. Tooter would ask Mr. Wizard the Lizard to zap him into a fantasy life only to meet with disaster. When things got real bad, Mr. Wizard would conjure the spell to bring Tooter home ("Drazzle, Drizzle, Druzzle, Drome...Time for this one to come home"). A subdued Tooter would say he learned his lesson...until the next episode.

I don't know if this counts but how about Ralph Phillips? He's always daydreaming about being in wild adventures from fighting off numbers on a chalk board to winning a heavyweight boxing match.

When I saw this, I was going to metion Wlado KItty (a live-action cat who dreams in animation) and MUttley, but I'll just skip to my favorite:Buford Buford typically has dreams where he catches the Raccoon.(he wakes up before he can kill the Raccoon) Sometimes he dreams he rescues his girlfreind Duchess. Outside his dreams he never caught the Raccoon, but he did rescue his girl twice.
