Wash Away Two More Soaps. You Must Register Before You Can Post

Ok, this bites. Classic ABC Soaps "All My Children" and "One Life To Live" have both been cancelled in favor of new reality shows. They will leave us in September 2011, and January 2012, respectively. Daytime will never be the same again.I'm Crying

Daytime soaps just aren't bringing in the ratings that they once did. They've been on the decline for a while now. The SOAPNet channel is going to be replaced by Disney Junior (a Disney owned preschool channel) sometime next year. Network Saturday morning cartoons are likewise on the decline. There was also a time when MTV's schedule consisted entirely of music videos. It's a changing world.

I have to wonder what Susan Lucci is going to do after there's no more All My Children.

It's funny to consider how MTV's current programming consists mostly of serial dramas for young people—kind of like an "All My Children" for the children.

It seems that women these days are more interested in talk shows and revivals of game shows than soaps. CBS ousted Guiding Light in favor of a new Let's Make A Deal starring Wayne Brady, and As the World Turns has been replaced by The Talk.

The only network soaps left are Days of Our Lives (NBC), The Young and the Restless (CBS), The Bold and the Beautiful (CBS) and General Hospital (ABC).

^ I've watched Guiding Light for over 10 years, and within the last few years of it's existence, it went down hill fast. I blame the ending of the soap on bad amateurish writing, poor plots and cheap shaky cameras.

The Young and the Restless is the only soap I watch now. They better not cancel it for some stupid game show.

Those Soaps may go too....

My sister was a fan of "Passions" and they cancelled a few years ago.

But Prime-Time Soaps are back on the rise again.

Yes, but for the most part it seems like they're just rehashing earlier shows like "Beverly Hills 90210" and "Melrose Place"... did we really need modern remakes of these shows?!

I watched the newer "90210" recently and found the characters in the remake to be even more insipid and annoying than in the original. I honestly didn't think any actress could be more stupid than Tori Spelling, but it turns out I was wrong...
