Wave 8 Due November 11, 2008!
|
|
|
While browsing over at GAC I found the following information concerning Wave 8 of the Walt Disney Treasures series; which is slated to include the 4th and final volume of The Chronological Donald, plus two other titles. As to whether this be the final wave in the series... who knows?

Cool news about the release of “Destino”, I was fortunate to work on this short. I am sure we will hear more about the complete title lists of each disc as time goes on.

I hope they make one for the "Disneyland" series.

I hope they make one for the "Disneyland" series. Could you be a bit more specific? The "Disneyland" TV series was on for a number of years and as such has quite a few episodes; ditto for its 2 other incarnations, The "Wonderful World of Color" and "The Wonderful World of Disney". Was there a particular episode(s) of the Disneyland TV series you'd like to see included, bearing in mind that each volume in the Walt Disney Treasues DVD series only contains 2 discs? A few complete episodes (e.g., "The Plausible Impossible") have already been included in previous waves. So far, only the "Destino" volume, "Chronological Donald, Vol. 4" and that British-based adventure series (the name of which escapes me at the moment) are slated for release in November '08. I have a feeling that the possibility of any more waves in the series will be heavily-dependent upon the sales of Wave 7 and Wave 8.

ya know what I would love to see? Not that this'll make it to a DVD release anytime soon, but maybe a special one disc or something. I saw Destino a couple years back and it wasn't bad. Odd, but interesting. Then I saw The Little Match Girl last year/end of 2006. It seems that Disney can still do theatrical shorts- rather good ones too (whatcha wanna bet Lasseter is the driving force onbehind this renaissance?). Heck, "The Little Match Girl" was nominated for the 'Best Animated Short' Oscar for 2006. Unlike Pixar though, Disney doesn't seem to want to make these new shorts available. Which leads me back to my first statement- I'd love to see Lorenzo somehow. Last I heard, there were even others in preproduction, or by now, full production. IIRC, the ones announced were The Ballad of Nessie (about yup, the Loch Ness monster); Golgo's Guest (something about a Russian and an alien); Prep and Landing (a Christmas themed short, I think); and a new installment in the Goofy "How to" shorts from the 40s and 50s named “How to Install Your Home Theater". But that was over a year ago with no news since.

I'm just pleased that I will finally have the complete Donald Duck cartoon series in a good quality DVD format.

The Goofy short; How to Install Your Home Theater, opened with National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets (2007), but without any fan fare or publicity. As for other shorts like Little Match Girl, One by One, Lorenzo, and Destino, as one knows were originally part of the third Fantasia film. A couple of the shorts have been thrown on as extras on such DVD’s like The Little Mermaid, The: 2 Disc Platinum Edition, and Lion King 2: Simba's Pride - 2 Disc Special Edition.

The Goofy short; How to Install Your Home Theater, opened with National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets (2007) Are you saying they actually played a cartoon short before the movie like in the old days? I don't know when is the last time I saw that although I haven't been to the movies lately.

After the success of “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”, soon after Disney released several Roger Rabbit and a Mickey Mouse short, “The Runaway Brain” along with such films as “Honey, I shrunk the Kids”, and “Dick Tracy”. At the time, all the shorts did at least receive some amount of publicity.

The Little Match Girl. That story tears me apart every time I watch it.
