Why is everybody laughing at this dirty joke?
|
|
|
In "The Wabbit Who Came to Supper", we see a private part on Bugs Bunny for one measly second! Why is it being disscused a lot on YouTube in the comments section? http://youtube.com/watch?v=FXEvZUhc_cc Whatever animator made that goof should have thought twice about future facisnation with dirty jokes before he made that one frame! I mean un-PC cartoons are understandable, but a gross joke by accident (even if Looney Tunes was for adults), ruins the fun of enjoying them!

I think you may be making too much of this, Famouslover... I've seen The Wabbit Who Came To Supper a dozen times or more, and I don't even recall seeing this so-called "upskirt" gag. If the animator purposely exposed Bugs for even a split- second, I'm thinking that it was done as a private joke amongst his colleagues. One thing you have to realize is that none of the denziens of Termite Terrace (or any other Hollywood cartoon studio of the time) ever once anticipated that the cartoons they were making would ever see the light of day again; once they had their initial run in theatres. And no one could have appreciated just how popular and valuable a commodity they would have become today. If they had, then perhaps they might have thought twice about inserting such gags in the firat place. Another thing to keep in mind is that, ultimately, the directors and animators were making cartoons that they thought were funny; and not necessarily trying to appeal to any particular demographic. Friz Freleng himself made it clear in an interview that these cartoons were never intended for children. So, chill out... ok?

Now that the news is, uh, out, we'll have to see if YouTube takes any action to yank, I mean pull—no. Never mind. I'm sorry I brought the whole thing up—no!!…

Here's the true story behind that so-called phallus of Bugs's... http://www.snopes.com/photos/risque/bugsbunny.asp

Ah, so what some claim to be a phallus is actually the bath towel framing the negative space between Bugs' legs. (This might explain his repeated cross-dressing.)

You're just seeing the bathtub through the space between Bugs' legs. There is no joke that the animators put in.

You're just seeing the bathtub through the space between Bugs' legs. There is no joke that the animators put in. Bingo! So why do people mistake it for a private part? And speaking of which... here is another confusion that's been the center of CartoonBrew.com attention: Bosko: That dirty.....

To be honest-when I first heard of this I tried watching "the wabbit who came to supper" to find the so-called "penis" and kept failing miserably-although I tried really hard to find it and believed these claims. Now I know why I never saw it-there never was one to begin with! Also the gag speeds by so fast I never had time to notice Bugs'"penis"-which is merely the whiteness of the bathtub between Bugs' legs. If I look really hard at the stillshot-I see the "phantom penis" but truthfully I always was puzzled because I could not find anything that resembled a penis on Bugs-there was merely the towel and the bathtub between Bugs' legs-nothing more.

And speaking of which... here is another confusion that's been the center of CartoonBrew.com attention: Bosko: That dirty..... I have heard about that but never saw it until now. I don't think he's actually saying the word in question but it's pretty darn close. I have also heard he is really saying "Fox." I know directors slip in stuff sometimes but this seems too blatant. If he was actually saying the word, it seems that it would have been edited out before it reached theaters.

I think Bosko really is saying "Number Eleven" (in the bad word list). It's like "That dirty f**k!" Nickelodeon actually aired it like that once! Much worse than the Rocko's Modern Life episode with the "Elevator to Hell" and the Hey Arnold episode with the "Jackass Hot Sauce"

That's something to think about!

Jiminy Cricket said 'Jackass' in "Pinocchio"! That's something to think about! So did the Coachman and Lampwick. First they used it as an expression, but then boys literally turn into jackasses. Malificent also said "Hell" at one point in "Sleeping Beauty," and there was a "Hell Hall" in "101 Dalmatians." There's also the Bugs Bunny cartoon "Dumb Patrol" from 1964, with Bugs's closing line: "I've heard of Hell's Angels, but I'd never thought I'd see one!" Interesting note, Cartoon Network aired this short with that line intact! Unlike Nickelodeon, CN seems to allow some MINOR profanity in their programming, like when they aired "The Iron Giant."

OK, just to clarify things... when the word "Hell" is referred to in movies, TV shows and cartoons as the place in the Bible where sinners reportedly go in the afterlife, it is not being used as a term of profanity. It's one thing to say something like "...I've heard of Hell's Angel's..." which is simply referencing the proper name of a person or place, and another to say something explicit like "...what the hell has all this laughter to do with the making of cartoons?!" "Damn Yankees", however, could be construed as swearing... ------------------------- "Sit, Ubu, sit... good dog!" ("Arf"!)

I know that. And I heard that Pixar's "Ratatouille" had the phrase "Welcome to Hell" spoken at one part. Though they were referring to the place, it's the first time a word like that was actually spoken in a Pixar movie! But at least it's not like the profanity that is seen on a semi-regular basis in some DreamWorks movies (as if their crude humor and pop music weren't enough!) I also recall a 1988 Gumby cartoon called "All Cooped Up" where it had a scene where Tilly is captured by the Blockheads in an egg factory, and asks Penny (another hen) where they are, and Penny says "It's Hell, Tilly! It's an egg factory!" But it could've been worse. She could've said "It's Hell, Tilly! We died and now we're in the fiery depths of the underworld! Now Satan's gonna egg us."
