Yogi Bear Sunday comics
During the 60s, Yogi Bear had a regular strip running in the Sunday funnies. I found this one on Patrick Owsley's site (link below). Note the Beatles reference. The strip was well-drawn and pretty funny, with Yogi typically speaking his lines in rhyme. The action usually occurred in Jellystone Park with Yogi and his pals, although, sometimes guest stars like Quick Draw McGraw would appear. I'd love to find more of these strips as well as details into their making. http://powsley.blogspot.com/...965-comic-strip.html

I've never seen these. I remember seeing some of the Yogi Bear comic books that were published by Carlton (or was it "Charlton")... I'm not certain on this but I'm thinking maybe the same artists worked on both the strip and the comic books. I remember reading somewhere that the comic books were drawn by Hanna-Barbera staffers. You might try the Comic Book section of the BCDB to see what info there is on the Sunday comics.

Not only did our newspaper carry this, but in Miami we had a TV show called "Sunday Funnies" where children helped read the comics with the host ("Okay, Jimmy, you'll read Boo Boo's lines"). They even had one Seely track playing in the background! As far as the Beatles theme, YouTube has the Kellogg's Raisin Bran commercial with Pixie, Dixie & Jinks donning Beatle wigs (search key words there) and singing rock-n-roll.....however, I felt they were spoofing the Beach Boys more than the Beatles, by (1) saying the word "Cal-i-forn-eye-ay", and (2) singing a tune similar to "California Sun" by the Rivieras. cd

This one was obviously drawn by Harvey Eisenberg, who also drew TOM & JERRY, HUCKLEBERRY HOUND and FLINTSTONES comic books for Dell/Gold Key.

Yogi Bear (3D) has just opened in theaters, and seems to be underwhelming audiences and critics. I thought I'd turn back the clock with another Sunday funnies appearance of the bear before he became a smarter-than-average-CGI-hybrid. Found a Christmas cover, too, so here's to the ghost of Yogi's past.
