chameleon & push button cartoon

Anyone know the cartoon where there's a chameleon who can't bring himself to turn "plaid"? He say's I just can't do it. I think it features other animals like dogs ( a dobermann that pinches, irish setter). Also the cartoon where someone says you shouldn't push that button?(Bugs maybe). Thanks!

I'm blanking on the title right now, but I do know that it was definitely a Warner Brothers cartoon, and that Bugs wasn't in it; it was a one-shot.

In the first case, you may be thinking of a combination of two cartoons: "Wacky Wildlife" (1940) and "Dog Tales" (1958). "Dog Tales" synopsis (thanks, damfine): Somewhat of a throwback to the 1930s-era Tex Avery spot gag cartoons where visual puns and sight gags abound. In this wacky "documentary," the funny side of dogs and the various breeds are used in various gags about dogs. A St. Bernard, upon arriving to pull out a frozen victim, mixes himself a martini, then gallops off, hiccuping all the way! A Doberman pincher literally pinches his owner, Private Doberman (from "Sergeant Bilko"). There are also an "Oldfoundland," a pointsetter and an Elvis dog. Charlie Dog appears in a cameo. Both were among the 30 Warner Bros. cartoons -- mostly of the spot gag variety -- narrated by straight man par excellence Robert C. Bruce. "Dog Tales" was the last of these.

I think it features other animals like dogs ( a dobermann that pinches, irish setter). That part sounds like Dog Tales (WB, 1958) but there is no chameleon. Maybe there are other animals like zoo animals or wild animals? I remember that bit with the chameleon but not the title. I'll keep looking.

"Also the cartoon where someone says you shouldn't push that button?(Bugs maybe)." Bugs vs. Sam Maybe,.. Lighter than Hare (60) Yosemette Sam is an alien invader in this Looney Tunes short. He's determined to abduct Bugs and take him prisoner, but first his robot must deal with a robot version of Bugs that the rabbit has built. The robot rabbit has a button in the middle of it's chest and it warns Yosemette's bot not to press the button. Sam's bot doesn't like being told what to do, so he basicly says,"Oh yeah?! Well I'm a'pressin' it!" and presses the button, He swiftly gets a spring loaded boxing glove in the face. Straydawg

Hmm The Chameleon that refuses to turn himself plaid is from "Unnatural History" a spot gag cartoon that includes a scene in which a beaver is actually damning a river! The dogs are from a separate cartoon entitled "Dog Tales" Although for some reason the whole "Don't push that button" also reminded me of the hillarious "Designs for Leaving" in which Daffy won't let Elmer push the red button in his push button home.

Bugs Bunny cartoons are not supposed to feature a lisping Viking rabbit hunter enthusiastically professing his operatic love for a bunny in drag.

I thought it was Unnatural History as well but there was no mention of the chameleon in the write up, both on this site and in the book, "Looney Tunes And Merrie Melodies: A Complete Illustrated Guide." But that gag could have simply been left out.

I know this because I use to see this cartoon on Nickelodeon all the time as a child. The chameleon part is also vividly remembered because I was frightened when the chameleon started screaming and carrying on.

Thanks for solving a long time conundrum! Do you know if these cartoons are available anywhere?

Sad to say, "Dog Tales," "Unnatural History" and "Lighter Than Hare" have never been released on video in any format!

A classic case of mixed cartoons, which we all do on occasion. Here's Cal the Chameleon from Unnatural History:
