If you're like me, you never worked up the nerve to purchase the $85.00 Warner's Europe French Betty Boop set of 116 cartoons boxset. They are in the process of releasing them as individual discs, five in all.
They are of course PAL Region 2, but fairly inexpensive at 8.99 Euros each plus shipping. I've had nothing but good experiences with Amazon France.

These new smaller sets are distributed by the same folks who sold the box set. Includes a lot of the same art too! Why is there no American interest in program content that is already assembled?

I've now received the first four of five Betty Boop French PAL dvd region 2 sets and they are the exact same program as that on the Republic vhs and laserdisc sets. The picture quality is mainly good and clean, it is in not certain that the films are merely duplicated from vhs sources.
One issue, however, is that of a 'doppler' effect. Figures in rapid motion (and that's most of them) leave a double image that can be very distracting in certain instances and is disappointing. I don't recall this being the case on the Republic originals which I'll check.
Perhaps this occured when they were transferred to PAL format? Volume five, the final set, will be released via Amazon France tomorow.
