Does anyone recall a scene from the classic Tex Avery-era where a hapless firefly is lured by a black widow who plants a kiss on him and short-circuits his tail light? :)
It might have been a scene in one of those great nature documentary parodies. I don't know if it was actually a Tex Avery or WB cartoon.

The closest thing I can think of is "Eating on the Cuff or the Moth Who Came to Dinner" Which is a WB cartoon directed by Bob Clampett. However, it's a moth who is lured by a black widow, and it's his honey bee bride who kisses him at the end.

Thank you for the reply! But that's the one I keep getting when I try to Google and it's not the one.
The cartoon I'm thinking of only had a single scene with the black widow and bumkin firefly, like those great Tex Avery parodies of nature documentary where the cartoon is a bunch of different scenes/bits.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I'm pretty sure that it's "Off We Glow", a Famous Studios Screen Song from the early 1950's. Not only does the black widow's kiss break the firefly's "tail light", it also kills him! (Then his "ghost" floats out of his body and exclaims "This is really livin'!".)

There was a similar gag in another Famous Studios Screen Song, but with different characters: Our Funny Finny Friends (1949). In the final scene, a beautiful girl fish smooches an elderly, cane-holding electric eel/fish. A short circuit and sparks follow.
"Durn it, you burned my taillight out," says the old duffer. "But I like it!"

That sounds like the one! Thank you very much, I appreciate it.

That sounds cute, I'll have to look for that cartoon too!
