Re: Cartoon Character Game [In reply to]

Oopsie, wrong one, my apologies. The correct rendition is by Barry Purves, assisted by David Sproxton of Aardman Animation. The cartoon is titled Next. Nonetheless, the Mystery Character remains William Shakespeare. The rightful cartoon is viewable here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3dQFR8oWb4.

Re: Cartoon Character Game [In reply to]

Thanks, Cartoonfan4ever. I knew I'd seen that one previously, just couldn't recall exactly where ...

Ah, here's a vein we haven't tapped yet:

1) This character has appeared only once in an animated feature film.

2) Although no actual corpse is shown, it may be safely presumed that this character died on screen. Further, this character's death was the result of deliberate and vengeful murder.

3) When first seen, this character is mistaken for someone else. Being a character of honor, he points the neophytes to the correct person.

Unless it's Scar, I haven't a clue.

Well, the vainglorious Scar is a character that covers the first two clues, TammiToon. However, the third clue demands a character of honor; Scar fails that test badly. I will say this, however: your thinking is "in the ballpark."

Re: Cartoon Character Game [In reply to]

Well, it's been one whole day, so I'd better find a way to get a correct answer. Focus up, now:

4) Unless this character's first name happens to be Mister, he's known only by his last name.

5) Tragically, the voice actor for this character, Roscoe Lee Browne, died in 2007.

6) By "ballpark," I am referring to Walt Disney Pictures, wherein this character occurs in an animated adaptation of a literary novel.

Now that I understand, I have the answer at last. It's Mr. Arrow, from "Treasure Planet."Smile

Re: Cartoon Character Game [In reply to]

Excellent, TammiToon. Mister Arrow is precisely the character that I was seeking.

1) Occurs solely in Disney's Treasure Planet.
2) Mister Arrow was last seen falling away from the RLS Legacy into the gravity well of the dying star Pelusa. This happened when the wicked pirate Mister Scroop deliberately cut Mister Arrow's safety tether. Murder in outer space.
3) Doctor Doppler and James Hawkins initially thought Mister Arrow was the captain of the RLS Legacy. Mister Arrow politely directed them to Captain Amelia, who was inspecting the sails at the time.
4) He's called "Mister Arrow" exclusively.
5) Thank you, Mister Browne, for all you've done.
6) "Treasure Island" by Robert Louis Stevenson, given the Disney treatment.

Good for you, TammiToon. Collect another +1, and the Game now owes you two questions: queried 70 characters, answered 72 correctly.

Thanks, OUB. Now here's one no one's even considered:

I'm one of two title characters of a long-forgotten animated series.

Trust me, I'm not a baby amphibian.

My show preceded a similar show from the 90's, as well as an upcoming movie from the creator of "Family Guy."

Re: Cartoon Character Game [In reply to]

Hmm, the only project that Seth MacFarlane is working on, to my limited knowledge, is a reboot of Hanna-Barbera's The Flintstones. This would make the title characters Fred and Wilma ... or Fred and Barney, using a lesser convention. However, none of these names describe a young amphibian.

Polly, shortened from pollywog, is another term for tadpole. This leaves mighty few cartoons with "Polly" in the title. My best posit: Polly from Gerry Anderson's Twizzle And The Polly Moppet from 1957. Could MacFarlane know about these cartoons? I certainly didn't, until today.

My brain is aching from trying to get out an answer. I would assume that the amphibian follows the formula of "Ted" in that it's a stuffed animal come to life--but I'm really not so sure right now.

You're on the right track, Glowworm. Still, here are the last three clues, as promised:

Like several others, my show had a serialized cliffhanger format.

I had two voice actors, one of whom was a Hanna-Barbera veteran.

I am indeed a living toy, and I interact with my owner.

Re: Cartoon Character Game [In reply to]

A-ha, this locks mindless li'l me on target: this is Tadpole from The Adventures Of Spunky And Tadpole. This cartoon aired as a series of five-minute shorts, running roughly like Rocky And Bullwinkle. The young boy, Spunky, was voiced by Joan Gardner. The teddy bear, Tadpole, was voiced by Don Messick at first, then by producer Ed Janis later on.

How could I have been so dense? All this time, I couldn't believe that "tadpole" would ever be used as a name, so I kept chasing "polly" as a title character. "Duhh" on me, and a splendid piece of research by TammiToon.

Yes, that's it, OUB. And thanks a lot. Feel free to step up to the plate.Smile

As for the rest of the clues:

The series preceded the very similar C-Bear And Jamal, which premiered in 1996. Also, as Glowworm mentioned earlier, the upcoming movie "Ted," which may be considered a raunchier version of these animated shows.

Re: Cartoon Character Game [In reply to]

You're very welcome, TammiToon. Though, I think that I will tap into a more mainstream production for the next Mystery Character.

1) This character has appeared only once in an animated feature film produced by Walt Disney Pictures.

2) It is said that Daffy Duck plays second fiddle to Bugs Bunny in every category except egotism and vanity. Bad news, Daffy: this character is even more self-centered and vain than you.

3) Surprisingly, this character assists in two rescue missions. However, in the first instance, the rescue party was seeking this character's newest rival. Thus, this character cleverly made the rescuers into unwitting mooks.
